Will do. I am very ignorant about AC, it's not a big thing up here. This will be the first time in my life having AC in a house. I've never had a window AC unit even. That's how little I know about it.
I do know the minisplits are much easier to install on an exterior wall, we just don't have good location for that in our house. All they need is a roughly 3" hole through the wall, a 220v 20A power feed to the outdoor unit, and somewhere for the condensate water to drain. I think they usually just let it drip on the ground. They have half-round vinyl covers and weather heads to sort of dress-up the lines exposed on the outside. Realistically, those are never going to be a beauty mark.
There are ceiling flush-mounted "cassette" units that have small pumps to lift the condensate to a drain line. That didn't sound very good for us, I don't really want a drain line in the attic that can freeze, leak, etc., or rely on a pump. You just know that eventually, there will be an issue. There are also multiple head units where something like four indoor units are sharing one outdoor unit.
People here say they are great and very efficient, and they like the dual AC-heat capability. My installer friend says he rarely has to go on a repair call for the Mitsubishi units they sell and install. He also says the refrigerant lines air purge and charging is very critical on these units. He does a double nitrogen purge and pulls the lines down to under 500 microns before charging the refrigerant which should be accurate to the ounce calculated by actual copper line length? He used a portable digital scale for the pink tank. That is all Greek to me. He attended a Mitsubishi training session.
I had a 3 inch hole bored thru my outside wall for our A/c unit. They covered up the hole with a plastic thingy. A week later, my cats are huddled around the utility room door, and they started bringing us mice, inside. Yuck! I took the cover off, and the installer's didn't foam in or do anything to fill the gap between the a/c lines and the sides of the hole. Plenty of room for the mouse brigade to infiltrate!! I called the company to complain, but that went nowhere. Never called them for anything again, or reccommend them to anyone either. That's how I roll!!
