Good morning it is a warm 67 this morning on its way to 87 warm degrees this afternoon. Still working out of town but mostly in shade. Where we are is a college town school is starting 35 to 40 thousand of them wow is it crowded and busy have to be carefull when working in road which we are. Drew thanks for the kind word but she works way harder than I and deserves all the accolades. Got to use it over the weekend and just wow real quick and crisp shifts. Really looking forward to long weekend. Hope everyone has a safe and productive day and Sam still thinking of you every day, God bless you and Jackie

Digging stumps with the backhoe is the plan.

My opinion is that Vermont Castings downplayed the woodstove angle to try to broaden their product and customer base and got lost in the shuffle. Not sure how it is now but they make the absolute finest woodstoves with the highest quality control in the business. They had a cult-like following of loyalists that actually represented almost all of their customers and when they shifted their product and marketing focus to broaden the product line and market to a mainstream base, the loyalists bailed.

I was one of those fans since my Defiant stove of the 1970's, another Defiant, a Vigilant and later an Interepid . We also had a (Canadian) Oval and an Elmira cookstove, although their quality was a little shaky. We sold them all when we moved and when I got around to a stove again, I couldn't make it work with VC. I actually forgot about them for a moment and when I started looking I think I found a barbeque grill from them or something other than a woodstove. They wouldn't sell direct and the only dealer I could find had an attitude, was 45 miles away and I thought tried to bait and switch me. So I bought a Jotul Leprechaun 120 miles away and called it good.

You almost don't hear of VC anymore but have to go to a showroom, deal with people that are usually not woodburner people and then pay the long dollar for the privilege. Very much like buying a car. From a marketing standpoint it's hard to dump the dealers but they don't always seem to have VC customer interests at heart and don't hustle the brand. Woodstoves aren't bought, they're sold. They actually sell themselves and then the customer risks getting short-sheeted at the dealer.

There's nothing wrong with VC --I don't think--that an aggressive marketing force and a few new products wouldn't cure. Maybe I'm wrong but that's my free opinion as a Vermont Castings 100% loyalist and devoted fan who loves their product and remembers the days of yore :). VC has always been the best and I sure hope they figure this out. Maybe a marketing guy in charge and not a bean counter.

Ironically, one of Vermont Castings problems is that their stoves are so good. I'm still using the Resolute I bought in 1981, which means they likely get fewer replacement sales. But the backplate cracked this past winter, so I may be back in the market if I can't fix it.
