3" of rain in 1 1/4 hours, more water and in places I've never seen it.

I remember reading that one inch of water per acre was 27,000 gallons. That's 81,000 gallons per acre in just over an hour! Wow.

put another way, that's almost three hundred tons of water.

Makes you think of what those huge irrigators are sucking out of the ground...

And wondering what happens when they run dry...

Drank both cups of coffee. 65° with clouds this morning. Heading to 74° with clouds and thunderstorms thought out the day. Got 8 of the shrub stumps out yesterday. Many of the roots were over 2" in diameter. Some had made it under retaining wall. Need to rebuild these areas today. Plus get other 4 dug out.
Good Morning All.

Ron, sounds like you are getting them out just in time, before they mess up your wall. Sounds like a good project, but hard work. I have a beautiful tree down at the end of our driveway and it sends one big root under the macadam. And I get out the sharp bar, beat on it until the root is severed, and fix the macadam, though usually the sealcoat people do a better job of that than I do. So I try to make a big mess just before they come...

And then three years later, the macadam starts to pop up again. Mother Nature is persistent.
I'm sorry if you already mentioned this but what are you going to replace the bushes with? Drew

Got home about two hours ago, took my truck and trailer and tools to Flint early yesterday, a former work associate and long term friend moved to a house that had a bilevel wheelchair ramp in the garage, she was quoted $750 to remove it so I did for her, salvaged the lumber...they used 3/4" tongue and groove PLYWOOD on the ramp and it was so overbuilt it could have supported 300 psf...spent 7 hours taking it down...yes, SEVEN HOURS. Overnighted with my current lady friend in Grand Blanc and went to Home Depot early today, picked up materials and spent today building new steps and a landing for the friend....she was so grateful for all my work. I do volunteer projects like this for others several times a year...makes me realize how dependent some people are to have handyman work done.

farmgirl---Is there anywhere in Texas where it rains? We have occasionally thought of TX as our final home but we need rainfall to make things work for us.

sixdogs; Sorry that I missed this. Yes, many places in Texas usually get rainfall. The problem is the drought of the last 5-6 years! The farther west of Fort Worth that one travels, the less rain is likely, and the farther east and/or south of Dallas that one travels can have decent rainfall. Houston usually gets rain weekly, if not daily. But you have to deal with Houston, the city, as well as the humidity. And, even Houston is way behind in rainfall, these days.

That is so nice of you to help those that don't have any handyman skills, nor a handyman around, JDgreen.

2nd post today...

Very nice out now...67 degrees, low humidity after a rain shower (I was pulling some weeds and doing some trim work when it rained).
In my earlier post, I wrote that I was going to look at a Deere 855D Gator (they're called XUV's now). Nice machine and I do like that little Yanmar diesel! It's going to take getting used to the CVT though...but I did buy it. The dealer has to install a roof and the winch (which fits the front or rear receiver hitch) and I hope it's delivered before the 4th of July.

I'll be looking for a snow blade pretty soon, I reckon...

My dad spent much of his adult life helping others...he loved to quote: "A man never stands taller than when he stoops to help someone else...." The friend I helped does much for others herself and is very active in volunteer work for her church....so I really enjoyed helping her out.

Your dad's quote is truly inspiring...
