71°F and cloudy this morning, only going up to 83° here today courtesy of a nice front that pushed through over night. We got a little rain, but not enough. Ground is still hard as asphalt.

Thanks for all the well wishes. He's doing fine so far. And no, I'll not be trying to dissuade him from riding again. That's something he'll need to come to on his own. I stopped riding about 7 or 8 years ago, mostly because the need to have my head on a constant swivel to watch what everyone else was doing around me took all the fun out of riding. My Goldwing is still sitting in the barn. I should probably sell it, but in the back of my head, I still want to ride. Inner conflict.

Have a safe trip, Drew, and I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Four day weekend for me, and lots of stuff on the Honey-Do list. So, off we go.

Good morning, gents.

75F and cloudy @ 12:00 with some rain showers in the general area. Calling for a high of only 78F with scattered thunderstorms this afternoon.

Threatened rain yesterday afternoon and evening with thunder and lightning but nothing really materialized here AFAIK. But closest LWS says they got 1.06" in the wee hours overnight. Need to check outside and see if there is any evidence we got some.

Refilled both tube feeders and scattered some seed for the ground feeders yesterday first thing.

Got foam pre filter oiled up and installed on Cub air filter, then swapped it out with the old one.

Finished up second screening of remaining compost pile then relocated the screen down towards where the pile to be screened is.

Ran box blade over the area where the screen had been and cleaned that up.

Started running what was left in the pile for the third pass, got that about half done.

What doesn't pass through on the third time is going into the new compost pile. It has a lot of rocks and gravel in it.

Probably see if I can't get that finished up today.

Might see if I can get some mowing done, depending on how wet it is.

Otherwise see what else come up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Saturday ... (y)

70°F and .07 inches rain and just started again. Likely remnants of Gilma

Sophie had a good Dr visit. Dr very pleased, made a prescription change and next 3 follow-ups scheduled. Of course pharmacy visit extended our time in town.

I did get the missing items for my gutter garden soaker irrigation and did get the individual soaker units fabricated. Today I should get whole thing assembled and functional.

Likely a play it by ear day with this rain that won’t include tractor again

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Well, I got one thing off my Billy do list (no honey), I had some rust starting to appear on the wheel arches of the Dodge. So I fired up the angle grinder with a wire wheel and stripped the paint and rust off down to bare metal and covered it with black stone guard. The Dodge is black so you might call it a 60 mph paint job. ;)
Junior did the running around for the grinder, extension cord and paint. I did the technical stuff.

Also measured up where the new platform is going for the BH. 16' wide is too wide and all I have is 16' lumber. :( I am going to lose 4' off each piece.:( But I have a place for them too, I think.
All done and that is all I am doing today.

safe and sound in Casino Queen rv campground next to the Casino in East St Louis, which I have no desire to go in. Little tricky finding this place, but I took the time to make the last half mile drive using Google Street view so I could get familiar with the signs. Turns out it was pretty easy.

all set up, want to go walk somewhere I can get a pic of the Arch.
then a hot shower and a long nap

hit some rain on the way, nice clean rv no longer but ok
this place is pretty full and all big iron.

they have two sides of campground, one on left for smaller rvs and it has tree shade, while I"m in the larger area with no shade. At least it won't be killer hot today and tomorrow.

Only 80F at 10:45am but already dripping with sweat and ready to quit for the day. I just finished "dressing up" about 80 cedar 1x6 boards through the jointer and table saw getting ready to build some sections of cedar fence.

I milled the boards over in CA, a year ago, on my sawmill using downed cedar trees. Although I cut precisely on the mill, after a year of drying there is so much board-to-board variation that I basically need to "dress" each board before using it. Was not planning on that, and I need over 200 boards to build 27 fence sections.

This is the third fence I have built for the dog but it will be the LAST one! Since I milled my own lumber they are true 1" thickness and I had the posts set 6 feet on center-- it should last longer than I will!

Everyone have a great day !!!

California is what worries me, $5+ regular gas
Gas prices vary widely here, Drew. The Indian casino up north is selling regular for $3 and change, while here in Orcutt, it goes for $5.10. I've seen gas as high as $7/gallon in Death Valley and along US395 in the eastern Sierra. It costs more in SoCal than in NorCal. Supply and demand, the more people, the more gas costs. And the farther away the station is from the distributor, the more it costs.

Good Morning!!!! 68F @ 11:15AM. Cloudy early with peeks of sunshine expected late. High 73F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph.

You're an experienced pro at this kind of thing by now, Don. And it shows.

Glad your stepson is recovering so well, Paul. Dave Barr is an adventure motorcyclist that holds several round the world records, and that lost both legs in combat. He's got several books out on his trips, and now does motivational speaking, which is where I first met him. We all make our own decisions when it comes to riding motorcycles, right or wrong in other's eyes. I'll be quitting some day, but not anytime soon. It took some soul searching before I got back on after my big crash, FWIW.

Got the back patio and sides blown off and sucked up using an electric hand held shredder, yesterday first time in a long while I've had it out and it worked well. Not sure how long it'll last as the bark chips and sprigs of redwood needles were giving the shredder a workout.

Finished up washing the car, but not enough time to do the windows before I was due for dinner at a friend's house. The water here is hard, so got a lot of spotting. Time for one of those big RO systems I think.

AD

SpaceX was supposed to launch another string of satellites last night around midnight, but decided it would be better to do it at 2AM instead. A real window rattler at my buddy's house, dog went nuts again, as usual. What a way to start the day.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekends...

This morning someone came by and take away a couple of rusty planter boxes I was selling on Marketplace. I was hoping for $50 in my pocket and a big improvement for the front of the house. But the bottom fell out of one when we were loading it, and I ended up with only $25. But gone is good. Another guy was supposed to come by for an empty firewood pallet, but so far he's a no show. Why are people so flaky these days?

My Goldwing is still sitting in the barn. I should probably sell it, but in the back of my head, I still want to ride. Inner conflict.
A big reason for me leaving the SF Bay Area was the big crash I had. Just too many other nuts on the road to feel safe. And why I ended up in a very rural area, and in great motorcycle riding country. I'm in a urban area again, but it's a smaller town, and the country roads and great riding aren't far away. Not sure how that will effect my approach to riding, or if it'll end up motivating me to hang up my helmet sooner. Time will tell. FWIW, I've been gravitating to smaller, easier to handle, naked bikes in the past few years, so that may or may not make a difference in your decision to get back on or not.
