Good Morning!!!! 63F @ 4:30AM. Sunshine to start, then a few afternoon clouds. High around 90F. Winds N at 10 to 20 mph.
Glad what the doctor found wasn't malignant, Drew, though a tick is certainly not a pleasant discovery. I share your concern about medicine interactions, and though I haven't found a site that'll search and display them for you, WebMD.com does a pretty good job of listing the interactions for individual drugs in an easy to understand format. Enjoyed reading about Mr. Higgins, and especially seeing the photos of some of his creations. Must have been a lot of fun testing those things out! Thanks for sharing.
Glad your wife is improving, Rip, and things are gradually getting better for you. Keep swinging, even a little at a time is still good progress.
Always a good feeling to finish the demolition and start building back, Phil. Hope the weather holds off until you can get that roof dried in.
From your photos, Don, that was a little lizard with lots of places to hide, so hopefully it's still on the job. I think I'd keep a stick handy to poke into the veggie garden before I did any reaching into it; hopefully to cause a warning rattle in case that four footer left a friend behind.
Lots of options on Amazon for
pipe repair, Wng. Shouldn't take much in a drain line with little to no pressure, but probably not much fun getting to the leak under there. I have a couple of the HF staplers and nailers, one that uses standard Arrow staples. Last time I used it was a pretty big job, and toward the end it crapped out and I ended up with the old squeeze cocker to get done. Worth the fifteen bux I paid for it, but I'll replace it with something more robust when the time comes.
This forecast doesn't mention it, but yesterday the NWS declared Red Flag Warnings starting last night through next Tuesday. Their concern is motivated by 40 MPH winds and low humidity, and is mostly focused on the valley below here, but it's a really big valley. Within a minute yesterday afternoon, I got a phone call, txt message, and email from PG&E, the local utility, warning of preemptive power outages should weather conditions warrant, and to have my "emergency plan" ready. Emergency plan? What are we supposed to do without electricity? If the outages are widespread, and that seems to be the case, there will be no cellular network, no internet, and perhaps not even the land lines will work. So if there is another fire, we won't know about it until the sheriff's deputies come knocking or we see the smoke cloud. Without electricity, I can't pump water, so if there is a fire, I can't do much besides fill a bucket and throw it, not very far and not very much. I did get on Amazon and order a 240V wall socket and extension cord, which I'll use to rig a back feed for the small gas generator into the 240V drop I use to power the phase converter on the back porch. Yeah, not a great plan, but as long as I trip the main breaker I'll be OK, and it's only temporary until the new solar system is up later this year. Should be here this afternoon; Amazon Prime to the rescue again.
I didn't get too much grief at the building department yesterday. The gal that looked over my site plan wanted a close up view of where the solar panels were going up, easy to do. I had her go over the checklist they published for the plan and cross off the things that were unnecessary, a request motivated by the instructions on the form that everything was required even though half of them were not relevant to the solar installation. After the meeting I got an email from the company that will supply the racks for the solar panels telling me where to look for e-copies of their signed and stamped engineering analysis, which the building department is insisting on. So with a little work this weekend, I should be ready to submit my application next week. I didn't ask about wait times, but there were only three other "customers" at the office while I was there, and though they're busy, the big rush after the Camp Fire seems to have abated.
Tried to buy some upholstery supplies at the small shop in Oroville while I was in town yesterday, but they were closed. Called and left a message, and shortly after I left town got a return call telling me that the owner has decided to close the business, and is only there intermittently while cleaning out the building. He did have the supplies I need, so we'll set a time and get together next week, but he's the only storefront supplier in the area and his loss will be felt by many.
Not sure what else I'll get up to today, if the winds aren't too strong I'll take another crack at cleaning the gutters, and maybe even finish installing the carpet kit in the van. Should probably go fill the gas cans first thing, just in case they do turn the power off...
Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!
