This company makes a woodburner fan driven by a Stirling engine. Except for the fan blades it looks an elegant mechanism, if, like me, you are fascinated by that sort of thing. Couldn't justify on price alone, but maybe as a working artwork Stove Fan - Spread the heat away from your wood stove

Interesting idea, but I doubt that tiny fan would make much difference in a large room. And at $279, I can afford to run the ceiling fan with its 5' blades a loooooooong time... Just goes to show that the old adage "If something seems too good to be true, it probably is" still applies.

Still have to fix problem with greenhouse floor being too low. Fills up with half an inch of water in heavy rainstorms, so I need to raise the floor perhaps an inch.

What about laying down a layer of sand or pea gravel, Drew? Level it with a length of 2x4, drop your plastic floor over it, and yer done!

Figured out how to make a snapshot from a video. Barn door with wheel next to it is 125' from camera. Garage on left is 70' from camera. Pole barn front is about 75'. Lost some clarity converting to snapshot. Anyone got suggestions to do this. I used a program called iDealshare VideoGo 6 on my PC. Need something for iPad.

I'm still using a ten year old version of Photoshop on my Mac, so I'm no help to you on what software to use, Ron. But on quite a few security camera shots people post, all you see are the tops of people's heads because the camera mounted so high. The whole idea of a security camera is to capture images of Ne'er-do-wells with enough fidelity to make a positive identification. That's hard to do when all you see is the part in their hair...

Maybe .... Ring needs to add an optional "say cheese" module getting the perp to look up as picture is taken?

Good Morning!!!! 50F @ 6:15AM. Mostly cloudy skies. High near 55F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph.

Spent most of the morning gathering up fire wood along the road leading into my place. Got two loads with the truck, but had trouble lifting the larger, heavier pieces and made a couple trips with the tractor using the lower FEL bucket and top of the box blade. I was racing an incoming weather front that was to bring rain, but on the third trip I noticed oil running out of the front left hub on the tractor. Happens often when moving heavy loads, and is either the bolts backing out of the hub cover or the hub cover developing cracks. Parked the thing in disgust, and used the hour remaining before the rain started to tarp over the bead blaster and put away a few things around the house. If I'm lucky today it'll stop raining long enough to clean off the muck and find out of the fix will just cost me a little elbow grease or several hundred dollars. I was going to try to be happy with this little tractor, having finished most of the heavy work around the property. But now with all these trees down, I'm going to have to start looking for something bigger and heavier. And I'm wondering, especially with all the demand there will be on contractors with the rebuilding of Paradise and Magalia, if I shouldn't just bite the bullet and buy a real construction grade back hoe and have something I can rely on. Very likely it would pay for itself this year just in preparing the foundations for a shop building and water storage tanks...

As I was having lunch I noticed a note on the calendar to check in for jury duty, but couldn't find the summons. I turned the desk top upside down looking for the thing, then remembered a handful of mail that spilled into the folders where I keep vehicle maintenance papers, and figured it was in one of those somewhere. So I called the jury commissioner's office and explained the situation, and a nice lady there gave me what I needed to be able to report in on Monday morning. Losing the summons was related to evacuating my records and trying to manage the stacks of mail that came while away from the office, and I was told that the judge would very likely excuse me if I pled hardship when asked. I think supporting the jury system is a pretty important part of citizenship, but this couldn't have come at a worse time with all the work caused by the fire still to do.

Finished up the day by throwing together a batch of spaghetti sauce and meatballs in the instant pot, and since it was slow cooking all night, the whole house smells like a good Italian restaurant this morning. Not sure I can resist the temptation to boil up some pasta and have it for breakfast...:licking::laughing:

I still haven't read through my homeowner's insurance policy to see what might be covered in terms of loss of use of the house during the evacuation, or damage to the landscaping caused by the fire. And people keep telling me I should register with FEMA just in case, so I've got some homework to do there, too. So it looks like today will start out with a lot of reading, at least until it stops raining and things dry out enough to play tractor mechanic.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Kind of warm this morning 31°. Yesterday was sunny and in the low 40's. They are calling for same today, sunny skies and round 40 for the high.

I got the snow drifts moved back yesterday. I think I have a good base on the driveway for the snow blower now. As long as it doesn't get to warm.

I've been waiting to practice my welding for the the last few days. I think I'll move the welding table out to the garage door and give that a try today. It should be warm enough to sit in the sun and do that.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.
CWB.

If anyone enters door below camera. They get a video taken of them by the ring doorbell that is mounted at 4’ at back door. Camera is mounted at porch door.
You can turn the siren on that would make someone look up to see what is going on. I would think a good feature would be for the camera to state it’s taking your picture. Previous camera had message saying it was taking a picture. But did not have any WiFi. Just recorded to a memory card.

Good Morning Everyone!!!

A foggy, misty 33ºF start to "Dump Day." Clouds are burning off presently temperature is 47ºF and expected to reach close to 50ºF later today. Brogen scored big time at the dump today (2 biscuits). Nothing major planned for today. Sunday will be a mixed precipitation to rain back to mixed precipitation to snow Monday AM. We may see ~1" of snow. Then cooler early week. Then warmer midweek with another similar mixed precipitin event next Friday into the weekend.

This is been a banner year for squirrels at the bird feeders; probably due to a shortage of the usual native food resources. It has been an ongoing challenge to adjust the squirrel baffles and feeder placement. For tree climbing rats they are pretty clever . For every measure they figure out a "counter-measure":embarrassed:;(. I discovered that squirrels  do not like hot sauce on the suet;). Birds do not seem to care.;)

Ted- That beef soup looks like really good eats!!!!

BEF- I am happy to read that your son arrived safely.

Eric- Thanks for the information and link.

Bill- That's a good lucking cat. Good luck with the "domestication."

RonJ- Nice looking property. Pretty decent optics on that camera.

Drew- Good luck with the floor raising. I have used Trex boards for ground contact with good results, but those boards are probably a little too thin for your purposes.

I hope that everyone is having a decent weekend so far.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

66°F and no rain. Ground wat to wet for tractor but not old fashion pick and shovel. Got new area formed and about 40 ft of trench dug. Nothing spectacular but progress.

Off to town this morning. Breakfast with wife, farmers market, Home Depot.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day
