Good morning!!!!

No frost this morning but it was 23°. Yesterday was windy and in the mid 60's with mostly sunny skies. Today is going to be in the mid 60's again but with less wind.

We got the ramps done yesterday. I think they will work just fine and a lot lighter then the ones that came with it.

I don't have any plans for today I'll see how it goes.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Topic i壇 like to throw out for discussion.
I知 sure most of us on the down slope of the age curve have had thoughts. How do I leave things for my significant other? My discussion with my financial planner last week and I知 confident that financially, we have a good plan in place regardless of who goes first. And with the planner being aware, he値l be able to step in and assist with the financial aspects.
But what about the physical aspects? If i predecease wife will she be able to take care of the day to day requirements to live here? I値l guess that may have been a factor in Don choosing Sun City. Funny thing is there are 3 single women of similar ages that live on the street, 1 longer and 2 about same length of time as us. And they do very well. No doubt she is aware what needs to be done, but not getting any younger either. One of my thoughts (but slow to implement) is the hiring of someone to do what I term caretaker stuff. Someone familiar with the off grid systems (catchment, PV, generator) that can perform the basics as well as some mowing/weedeating. My plan includes building a studio type residence so I that person is on site.
Just curious as to other thoughts.

I have given this a lot of thought. Not so much for dying, but for a thru hike. No way Margie can handle the farm by herself for 6 months. {or longer if I do my usual 8 miles per day} We are alright with regard to money, so taking the time off work wouldn't break us. It's just finding folks to help that you can trust.

3-4 days at a time is the most I have been able to get away the last couple of years. It will only get harder as time goes by.

One night last week I was out night hiking, and some guy was broke down and knocked on the door after 2200. Margie was asleep in front of the TV, woke up thinking it was me, and opened the door, then shut and locked it as soon as she saw it wasn't. He ask to use the phone, but left before she found it. She was pretty upset when I got home. The first thing she said, "you are not going thru hiking."

{we called the Sheriff's office, and a deputy found him and gave him a ride}

With the wind finally leaving us alone for a while we were spared a frost last night by only a couple of degrees , though I wouldn't have known that without a thermometer as the sun is out early today in a cloudless sky.

Back in 2004 I put a few sweet chestnut (Castanea sateva) nuts in plant pots. Some were gathered from a friends tree and others were being sold as food in a local market. After 3 years they had grown tall enough to plant out. I thought if I was lucky, I may live long enough to collect a few thinnings as fire wood. They seem to like this soil and to my surprise several have fruited this year. Even better, the strong winds have brought the nuts to the ground before the casings have split, so I get to try a few before the squirrels.

Do I have to wait until December, or would it be ok to light the fire and play Nat King Cole a little earlier this year ? Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting...) - YouTube

There is a big chestnut tree in the side yard at my old house. But a few years back my cousin had her land surveyed, and the chestnut tree is now on her land. So maybe she will rake up the hulls before I step on one barefooted. I go through there on my night hikes, and I saw they were falling. I need to remember to pick up a few next time by there.

Good Morning. At 1030 it's partly cloudy, 85F with 78% humidity. Forecast high low of 87/71F with 60% chance of rain. Once again I see a 69F on the tenth day of my 10 day forecast. But it is a lot like a dream. When you first wake up it's there, but after while it will be gone again.

I slept in this morning til 0700. Sleeping inside, the birds don't wake me up at daylight. Since breakfast I have been listening to You Tube hiking videos while catching up on this thread. No real plans. Not working again until Friday, so a couple of days of hiking at Torreya State Park is an option. But it's still hot and there is a good chance of rain the next three days. So most likely will do some walking and camping down at my river camp.

Margie is having a bad leg day, so she ask if sausage sandwiches and a Suddenly Salad would be alright for lunch. Of course I replied in the affirmative. Then she was reading off the options for Suddenly Salad. One of them was Racon and Branch. Ha

Buppies. Good luck with getting your new spot removed. If it gets too sore to sit, you can always pretend you are a hiker.

Here is all the equipment you will need. {trowel and s**t tickets}

RNG nice video, where is the camera mounted?

I used another ball mount adapter on the RAM mount that holds the GPS to the handlebar. This one replaces the nut on the clamp with another ball that has the nut in its base. A very clever and clean design. But I see from the video it tends to shake a bit at low RPMs.

You'll find a selection of RAM mounts and accessories HERE.

RNG I misread the tach reading in the picture. Looked to be about 2 o'clock for awhile.
I have no idea what you are riding other than a BMW and my memory was they weren't super high rpm machines so
I was just curious. Thought it might be an Italian tune up.

It seems you mistook the speedometer for the tach, Drew. That bike is a BMW, the R100GS model, an air cooled twin from 1993. Long stroke, big pistons, lotsa torque. From back in the day when electronic ignition was high tech, so it's very user friendly when it comes to maintenance and repair work. Unlike BMW's current product offerings, but I'll just leave it at that.

...there, no more Left Lane Louises, all fixed. :thumbsup:

I can hardly believe you wrote that, Drew! I could swear in the last year in this thread you wrote how you like to get into the left lane and loaf along at five miles an hour over the speed limit, and to heck with anyone behind you that wanted to go faster. I'm going to have to start taking one of those memory drugs to stop having these delusions!:confused2::laughing:

As for the Audi idiocy, well, the marketing claims are far outrunning the engineering accomplishments when it comes to "driver assists". I just hope the accomplishments surpass the claims before I get to the age where they take my driver's license away from me and I need a self driving car to go grocery shopping!:laughing:

New skin cancer where sun doesn稚 shine on rear very confused where this came from.

Very sorry to hear that, Buppies! Skin cancer's bad enough on it's own, and you've had more than your fair share of suffering, but that's a low blow and a royal PITA to boot!:muttering:
