As far as sub-sonic .22LR, cycling in a semi-auto may not be reliable...I reckon I'll find out when the suppressor comes in. They should work with the SR-22 pistol...not so sure about the 10-22 rifle. However, I did buy a Ruger American bolt action rifle (with a threaded barrel) too. There's a Youtube video of this rifle with a suppressor, and you're right. All one hears is the action of the rifle.
Are suppressors legal to buy over the counter in the UK?
When I was shooting at the club last night there were several 10-22's around and many feed them sub-sonics. They say it's worth trying a few different makes of bullet to see which will cycle. Standard RWS is a bit slow (although never cracks, even in cold weather), whereas Winchesters are a little faster while still staying sub-sonic most of the time and they now have one with a heavier bullet which should help give it a little extra energy to cycle.
We need to ask to have "sound moderators" listed on our firearm certificate, but that permission is quite easy to obtain and does not cost anything extra.
RNG, I have what we call an "open certificate", which means I am allowed to shoot a rifle anywhere I have the owners permission. No problems with shotguns, legislation on them is much more relaxed.
