Rain is really a good thing. Just annoying when it interferes with what I need to do.

U2...wow. I like most of their music, but not much of their politics. :)

In the days before what has become ubiquitous satellite imagery, the U2 was used to put the "mutually" in this nations Mutually Assured Destruction nuclear policy. Very ironic that the band would choose it's moniker in light of the politics you reference, no?

It still amazes me that people drive fast in these conditions. You can drive fast, but you can稚 turn and you can稚 stop.

That's happened to me oh so many times. One that stands out was on I70 west bound on the east side of Columbus, Ohio, my old stomping grounds, in the wee hours as I was headed home from a laundromat cleanup job deep in winter. The little VW Squareback, my first car, was pretty good in the snow, but as a relatively new driver, I had enough sense to slow down and just be happy getting to where I was going. The Chevy Suburban that passed me like I was tied to a post, however, didn't. He plastered me with slush as he bulleted by, then buried his front end in a drift in the median when the freeway made a little right hand curve. Funny what sticks in your memory, forty some years ago...

Yes, it does snow in California:laughing:

The story I heard was that the band was formed by a number of blokes who regularly attended an unemployment job center and U2 was the G/ment form number they had to fill in each week to get the unemployment benefit.

I was more impressed by the SR71 which replaced the U2 although the SR71 is now no longer flying.

Morning all!
After two days of rain and freezing rain it is now 17 above zero F. Heavy winds blew the ice crystals off the trees last night pelting the house like hail. Several areas of power outages were reported. We were lucky to keep ours. My driveway looks like a sheet of glass with an ice cube tray spilled all over it. Will try to grab a pic when it lightens up out there. Definitely going to put the ice crampons on my boots. I have sand in buckets to put down. No salt as the drive is concrete.
Have a few small jobs at the apartment house that need getting done. Will try and venture out after the sun rises. Usually go out for breakfast with my wife on Saturday mornings, we will have to see how the roads look.
Blood pressure and gout doing ok. Still having issues with throat and stomach, two more doctors visits coming up. Might have to go back in for a camera check again.
Been checking in often as I can so it doesn't get to far ahead of me. Love reading everyone's stories. Time for another coffee.(my only vice left)
Hope everyone is safe and healthy for the future.

30 degrees out headed up to low 50's in much cooler weather. Lot of rain in next week's forecast also.

painful experience getting MRI's yesterday, neck was super sore. Didn't get home to 7:30pm, took some pain pills and went to bed.
Sore this morning but better.

Have a trip downtown this morning then intend to keep planting flowers.
Hope you all have a nice weekend, and watch your backs with snow.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 25° with snow flurries this morning. Heading to 31° with off and on snow. Need to check battery connection and test it. Probably need a new one. Trip to Menard's or Walmart today. A few more inches of snow in forecast for tomorrow. No other plans.
Moon was out and bright yesterday evening. Did not use tripod to take picture.

RNG, glad van is running much better. U2 siting. Now that you have Gen and pipe. Hope rest of project goes better.

Eric, hope you got enough snow pictures.

David, warm rain sound better than clod snow.

Buckeye, hope your stew turned out as good as mine. I like instruction given with recipe. Be careful on the roads.

Hawkeye, hope you get the retirement and plans work out.

Drew, good to hear you are getting better.

Good Morning All.

Drew, you posted while I was writing. Hope you are feeling better. Next Saturday I get one of those dreaded MRI's that make me claustrophobic. :confused2:

Good morning, the temp is -16°F, the high will be 5. Wind N 6 mph. Sunny.

I need to take a neighbour to the drug store this morning. She has a license, but no wheels. There is no way she will be driving anything I own. I don't lend my vehicles.

I would rather have snow than rain. At least with snow, I can be outside in it most of the day and when I come into the house I am not soaked through, just brush off the white stuff. Yes, in the past I have worked all day in the snow.

You all have a safe day

27 going to 47...crisp and clear outside...been so rainy and cloudy, didn't know the moon has gotten near full.

Kyle, hope date night was renewing.

Jay, stay safe in that ice...wish I could share my woodstove ashes with you. My "volcano" of ashes in the ash pit is 3 feet high now.

Buppies, make it snow.

Had the septic tank pumped yesterday afternoon...everything went well and had a good chat with the worker...good hard working man with wife and 2 girls. Eric, he didn't use a mud sucker, thank goodness...instead high power pump run by his truck's pto. Found a real interesting video on how the tank works while I was waiting for him. This guy diagrams the tank and how it works at 1:40, then sell a device on how to tell when your tank needs pumping (no thanks).

When Should I Pump My Septic Tank? - YouTube

Not sure if that link will work. I've been on TBN for over 15 years, and just learned how to change my settings so that I have access to the funny emojis you guys use, and it provided a video insert icon. I inserted it with that icon and the old way. Will be interesting to see if it shows up both ways. You'll think I'm obsessed with septic tanks.

Good morning! 35˚ heading to the high 50s. Clear skies this morning but clouding up later.
Actually got some seat time in yesterday and heading back to the gardens this morning. Everyone is prepping the gardens. I'll wait till the end of the month because it's still producing carrots and beats and fennel and kale and cabbage and snow peas.

I see where the SIG that takes care of ten beds, with the harvest going to the food bank, has already started cutting seed potatoes and coating them with sulphur airing them to get hard.
They say you should have an eye in each cut piece but I like to see 4 eyes, so most of my potatoes will be cut in halves or thirds. Since we are in a limestone area the acid in the sulphur coating lowers the high PH. I'm just going to plant 10 pounds and expect a harvest of 50 pounds of organic potatoes.

11 degrees right now...high today predicted to be about 20....very cold night tonight at minus 7.

Cleared the walks and drive...just to expose some really sloppy slush. I'm sure that froze last night. Even with applying non-stick vegetable spray on the blower's chute, the sloppy stuff did clog the chute. I chopped most of it out and applied more non-stick spray. Still some on the chute...so either more chopping today or use my wife's blow dryer...
We did get a strong snow yesterday afternoon, but it was short duration. Looks like it added a couple more inches. So, that's the job today...clear the drive and walks again.
Adding to the misery...apparently when we replaced the battery, we must have damaged the wire powering the cab heater, fan and wiper. I'll fix it, but probably not today...too cold for this old guy. Just have to dress warm for today's work.

Good morning. Very little rain for the last 3 days and hopefully same today, plus plenty of wind. A good time to give the Iseki some exercise by spreading out a few mole hills before they start to grass over. Still have a few more to catch, tally is 28 to date.

Thanks very much for all the snow pics. We may eventually get some of our own, in the meantime your pics do a good job of satisfying my longing for a sprinkling of white stuff, without any need to lift a shovel

Don, we get gardening in March, your area a full month earlier.

Ron, thanks. They have two MRIs there, both allegedly "open".
I doubt the difference is much less than two inches inside. Got hot in there, felt like
I was lying on a tray with heaters in it. Maybe I was...hot enough the air blowing inside really helped.
I was a sweaty aching mess when done. Air outside in parking lot sure smelled good.
Drive home seemed endless, only way to feel better was by laying down and getting weight off neck.
And good drugs, which for me excludes opioids.

off to check on the greenhouse. Should need a good watering and I'll take some pics.

Later going to bake some blueberry muffins, full of extra blueberries, and take them across the street tomorrow
to the widowed wife of my dead neighbor. My last seven years that I worked I did family financial planning, for a fee only,
where we spent many nights, always at a dining room table. Lots of room to lay papers out.
My neighbor volunteered she has lots of decisions to make, and her last child left the house today to go back to the Middle East I'm pretty sure as a soldier.
So maybe I can listen to her story, in complete privacy and give her a non family sounding board, and if desired, offer some advice which I as a former CFP
am qualified to give. I'm also retired and rusty, but usually that doesn't matter.

It was a fascinating 7 years. There are a lot of insecure folks who if they were told they
were doing fine by someone they trusted, could really suffer less self induced stress. I was always dealing with a married couple, usually while their kids were in college
and they were really stressed with how they were going to retire in their current situation. My specialty was portfolio analysis which helped me make sure that their current
broker or bank wasn't taking advantage of them. I believe I annoyed a few of their brokers. Never took their business, just got them to make changes that were
better for the client. Including rebalancing to achieve a proper stock/bond mix based on current conditions, usually because client was too conservative actually. Way too much money in money money markets which earned 1 percent if that. I enjoyed it, very mentally challenging work. And you never guess. The basics of that I don't forget, and in that context I hope I can calm her fears. And tell her I'm putting the farm up for sale so she knows it before any signs go up.
Actually I asked for no signs and realtor agreed. The locals aren't going to buy my place. But who knows.

have a good day.

10F clear sky low 20's for high going to be chilly night.

Last night moon light one could see many many miles...nice.
By the looks outside nasty storm left its mark with limbs/branches least 2 spruce trees white birch bent over that I can see from inside.
Plans for today...snow removal from deck walks driveway etc. fill all feeders, but going to wait until sun upon me tho.

Enjoy the day all.

Good morning. It was 49° at 4 a.m. and already up to 54°. Our high should be 67° this afternoon. It's too overcast to see the moon here this morning but ... it was huge yesterday early a.m. when I was driving up to La Grange.

Snow pics? December 8, 2017.

I built another burn pile in one of our pastures last two days. The 20+ cedars were all cut down or pushed out while the last pile, in this location was burning.

IMG_1398.jpg

Drew ... sorry you're still in pain.

Ron ... great moon picture! Please remind me which telephoto lens you bought.

RNG ... glad all your projects are coming together.

Don ... happy gardening. Hard to believe it's already that time again.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Prayers to all.

I’ve driven that stretch many times. Got a nephew up that way now in pataskala area.
When I lived in Columbus during college, I was a basketball official, so drive to the suburbs a lot to make me $25 lol.
My aunt and uncle lived in Whitehall on East side.

Drew, I was or still am too conservative on my investments. My problem is I don’t adjust enough with the current markets.
