it is for sure a cool fire truck, not too big, most are well cared for. Just have to run the pump regularly, like any machine.
RNG, start learning labels like Tank To Pump. Suggest you color code or number levers to make sure you get them working
in the right order. Are you expecting to leave this rig stationary and run lines from there? You know you can hide this truck behind a building and run a 2.5 inch line to a standpipe close in where you need it, and then have hose reels at standpipe. I bet you want to be able to drive it to edge of your property though.
Might check to see if local fire company has some old turnout gear they can give/sell you. If you have your own fire truck, those guys will love you...
The real stuff has gotten amazingly expensive, I remember paying 125 bucks for a turnout coat.

Sounds like good advise. Thanks, Drew. Yes, lots of levers, dials, and labels. Lots of reading to do, and lots of practice, to become familiar with it all so if/when the time comes, I'm not stumbling around trying to figure out what to do. The price of some of that gear is high, but it's comparable to what a good riding suit for motorcycling costs. In fact, one of those wouldn't be a bad substitute, helmet and all. But it would be hot, hot, hot!!!

Having neighbors over for barbecue dinner. Need to get ribs marinating so that is first job.
One NC vinegar pepper flavored, other Kentucky bourbon and smokey flavored.
I bought some Brunswick stew and two kinds of local made chopped pork barbecue.
Fat and salt, fat and salt, at least I can freeze all the leftovers.

Going to cheat and going out at lunchtime and buy fried chicken from local barbecue store.
If they have ribs with a different flavor, might buy some of them too. In case mine are inedible...
Figured I'd cook them slowly for about two hours, keeping them flipped and basted.
At least I can't go wrong, I think, with a chocolate cake ice cream cake.
Need to make some decaf iced tea, don't think any of these folks drink alcohol.
Prior to entertaining, the cook certainly does...

The best BBQ is cooked low and slow. No more than 250F, 225F is better. Use indirect heat: One burner on one side of the BBQ, the meat all the way over on the other side. You really can't burn it at that temperature, but it can be under cooked if the heat doesn't circulate well in the cooker. Use a meat thermometer to be safe, and allow at least six hours. You can put a rub on if you like, but I just keep putting wood chips in the smoke box. When you're satisfied the meat is done, put 'em over direct heat and baste 'em with your favorite sauce. A few minutes a side will caramelize the sugar in the sauce, and they're done.

Just be careful not to get too carried away with the adult beverages while you're cooking: Six hours is enough time to get through quite a few if your not keeping track.:laughing:

Rng. Nice fire truck. We have one green department and 10 red departments in the county. Insurance company probably won稚 care unless you have someone on site 24/7 though. 750 gallons doesn稚 sound like much. Do you have the ability to refill quickly?

At this point I don't have a way of drafting water directly from my storage tank, but I do need that capability. The truck is parked about twenty feet from the tank, and I'm thinking about digging out a bank and installing a retaining wall to get it closer. That would solve a weed problem at the same time. The only draft hoses I have are those two huge ones on the side of the truck, and I'd need to rig a spigot of some sort on the side of the tank to use them. That would mean draining the tank, and I don't have enough output from the well at this time of year to fill it again in a reasonable amount of time. I'm told some of the new neighbors have water trucks, so maybe they could help with that. But what I think would be better is to make an adapter for the draft input line on the truck, one that would take an inch and a half or two inch rubber line, and just drop that line in through the top of the tank. I can only run one hose at a time, and if the tank lasts an hour, that should get me through the fire wave as it passes over.

I think I'll leave it as is, Don. When I was a kid in the '60s, I'd ride bicycles with the American Youth Hostels club all over central Ohio. We'd often go by locks built during the 1800s that were used to move freight for a brief period of time before the railroads took over that task. Very likely I rode my bicycle right through Lockington back then with no inkling I'd one day end up with one of their fire trucks. Fond memories of those times every time I see Lockington on the door...:cloud9:

Good Morning!!!! 73F @ 6:45AM. Abundant sunshine. High 98F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Long, hot day yesterday. Kept chipping away at the clutch installation on the red bike, and with frequent breaks for water and a cool set down in the house, finished up around 4PM. Got the layout dye on the aluminum for the bash plate, but I was too worn out to continue. Put on some running shorts and flip flops, grabbed a beer, and stood under a cool outside shower for a few minutes, then retired to a deck chair to catch a few rays. Alternated about three dunks/beer, very refreshing. Body shop neighbor came over and we enjoyed a margarita together, looks like Sunday is the day for the trip to the airport.

Gonna have a quick breakfast in a few minutes here and then go out on the motorcycle for an hour or so. Still have a few more things to do to it yet, but I might stay inside and read if the day is as warm as yesterday.

Good morning all. We have the last rain cloud passing over, then look to be in for a few days of dry weather. I had intended pointing more brickwork in the spring, but somehow the months have slipped by. Now I am out of plausible excuses, so I better make a start today.

RNG, what a marvellous looking fire truck. Having a mobile pump and water supply independent of any other equipment must be very reassuring on top of all the other measures you are taking and a lot of fun too. Maybe those on here with fire fighting experience can give you some tips on how best to protect yourself if you are contemplating having to go outside during a fire.

Good morning! Starting off with 80˚F before sunrise is never good. Heading to 101˚F. At least I have mornings to get outside.

Heading to the gardens to till in my 50 lb bag of dried molasses which was delivered yesterday. Found it on-line $10 less than Amazon even with the shipping added. Ridley 5 Lb. Dried Molasses 47975 Want to keep my microbes fed. I need to start the Fall garden soon but I'm waiting for the temp to stay in the low 90s.

RNG I'm still excited about your firetruck. Post as many pics as possible. Most FD vehicles have very low millage. Like Drew said get some turnout gear. I would get the lighter wild land gear instead of the interior structure gear since you will not be entering a burning building and you might have it on for an extend time. A good helmet with face shield is essential to block the radiant heat and falling hot ashes. A good pair of leather gloves is also needed.

I saw water vollyball being played in the central pool last year but have not looked for it this year. Its on my Summer bucket list. I think I saw them on a Sunday but Sunday afternoon is also card time.

Speaking of Cards, we had a 3 handed Hand and Foot Card Tournament last night in the Card and domino Club. 33 people showed up to compete. They had a rotation set up so you never played with the same people and since this was 3 handed no partner to help. I ended up about in the middle of the pack with 3 wins and 7K points but my Wife came in second place with 5 wins and 9500 points.

Don, those card games sound cut throat. Especially since you gain position if your competition has to go to assisted living or passes...:shocked: They better put a camera on the crowd to make sure no one is sneaking around cutting folk's oxygen regulators back.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 65° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 85° with mostly sunny skies. Got grocery shopping done yesterday. My cousin came over and collect all items needed to make food Betty can manage to swallow for the next week. Big help for me in her care. I have a few outside things to get done that have been neglected for the past week.

BEF, I believe the hospitals purposely wake patients up at all hours of the night, so they don't get too comfortable being in a hospital. Glad you took some steps. You have 6 days to work up enough capacity to get to the fire truck. We might have to whisk you in a wheel chair to expedite.

I have been selling about 2-3 dozen eggs a week at work. 1 lady brought me a few cartons, and 1 guy has been returning his cartons for a refill. So the chickens are paying for themselves as far as feed is concerned.

Today is another scorching Heat Index day of upwards of 110F HI. Brutal. Planning on cooking a bit on the barbie myself. Probably going to be like this until the middle of Sept or longer.

RNG, a new firetruck. Every boy's dream. Water the garden? Is there a water conditioner "like Stabil for gas" to keep water stored in a tank? I know that they recommend making sure pressure washer pumps (if stored for long periods) be stored with a conditioner. I put a tablespoon of used antifreeze in my pressure washer pump.

Need to spray some round up on some weeds. Already had my chocolate decaf with 2% milk coffee. Saved at least $5 over what starbucks charges. I don't call it Starbucks.... I call it FiveBucks coffee. I might need to update it to SixBux Coffee.

High School football had our first scrimmage against another team last night. Too hot for me, and our team had to wear black jerseys in the bright sunlight. DOH!

At work, the last 5 engineers we've hired for our team, have all been women. They seem to all be good "kids". I believe we are interviewing one guy right now.

I see the miami erie canal on google maps passing thru lockington. Ive never been in that part of Ohio. My BIL is from Lima.

diesel engine I'm thinking about is the smaller V6 in the Transit van, not the big truck diesel. Neither the Ford nor the MB diesels
have much hp, under 200, but put out adequate torque and get 15-17mpg.
picked up some fried chicken, collards, mac and cheese and hush puppies. Mac and cheese for 3 year old boy.
Caloric overdose...
I'm not cooking the ribs 6 hours but maybe I'll put them on sooner vs later

A foggy 63ºF for today’s low; a cloudy humid overcast 74ºF presently; and I anticipate a humid 78ºF for today’s high temp with a chance of rain showers and T-storm activity. Brogen A.K.A Droolius Barkus scored big time today at the transfer station/dump (3 biscuits) prior to the trip to the doggie gulag. We got to the gulag and there was a family group with a pack of 4 Australian sheperd mixes who it appeared were not dog friendly as a pack. Droolius was still in the truck as I helped the kennel owner manage the pack while 2 geriatric beagles were exiting with their owner. It appeared that the pack controlled the humans, but finally the pack was taken to their kennels. I told the family that I would be coming in with my St. B. now that the area was cleared of potential combatants and no one else was bringing in their dogs for boarding. The instant that Brogen and I returned entering the kennel the office the family freaked out about Brogen which got Brogen and the kennel owner’s two (dog unfriendly) Bull Mastiffs going. Quite the scene, but all’s well that ends well.

I really do not know why I even bothered to get the truck detailed. Plan for today get the truck cleaned up (again), clean the kayaks, and pack the truck for our Adirondack vacation tomorrow.

Bruce- The Rabbit Hole was a really good restaurant. Wifey and I shared a chef’s choice fermented vegetable sampling which was really good eats. Peg got a huge hamburger loaded with fermented vegetable toppings. She even let me sample some . That hamburger was amazing. I stayed away from all things sausage, but I did order a 24 oz, air cured, cold smoked, and jerked rib eye steak which was amazing. It came as ordered medium rare. Plan for today finish that steak, and yes Brogen did get some (scraps). It appears that the co-owner (wife) took a liking to us as evidenced by the size of the bone dry martini #2. We have always liked this restaurant, but due to its location it usually fails after a year or 2. We will do our best to keep this operation going. Plan: Return in 2 weeks with some friends who live nearby.

“Yes, the case manager was off…”- BEF It seems that this is SOP. We were really in a financial bind when I first got sick and had to go through all the ST DI, SSDI, etc. BS with similar experiences as yours As soon as I could I applied for my State pension and after my case was opened my case manager retired. It took months and a lot of - expressed emotion to get my pension. I hope that your experience will be different. Good luck with the discharge planning.

Now you know the change to plan "C" (green firetruck) is your own fault. The urgency was high when your room was the battleground for a domestic disturbance with a gun shot victim. However you took care of the situation yourself and changed it to a pretty nurse and cooking brownies which kind of reduced the urgency for the air e-vac. :confused3:
