Good morning!!!!

It looks like -5° this morning for the low. It was in the mid teens for the high yesterday and partly cloudy. It's going to be mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers this afternoon and the wind 10-20 mph with the high in the teens. They are saying we could get a few inches of snow overnight.

The defroster fix didn't work yesterday so it's back to the drawing board. I have another idea if I can find the parts and pieces. The heater works pretty good I had it up 65° in the ranger yesterday when I went for a ride. It just takes it a little while to get there.

Making the weekly trip to town this morning. The wife is going down to SLC for a week to do some house setting. I'll have breakfast with her before she goes down.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

29°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 45°. Expecting some rain tomorrow night and into Saturday, but the high Saturday will be near 60°. May get to finish painting that guitar this month after all.

Thanks for the recipe, wngsprd. As Randy already noted, anything other than lamb is actually cottage pie, which is what we always make with ground beef. Looking forward to trying the southwestern version.

Good luck to those entering the Yanmar giveaway. Honestly, I don't know that we have room in the barn for another tractor. Besides, better to leave it to someone who might need a new tractor (the LS is not even three years old yet).

Good Morning Everyone!!!!

Yesterday’s initial snowfall was really interesting. As it fell through the dry air column it evaporated. Snowing/not snowing at the same time. One could stick their arm/hand out for the falling snow and not feel anything. A perfect example of sublimation. And no I had not ingested any bronchodilator products.

Today’s low was 20ºF. It looks like 1.5” of snow/sleet fell before being covered by a layer of ice. It looks like .10” of ice coating. 28ºF presently and I may see temps rise into the low 40ºF’s.

Buppies- I hope you got your power back and downed trees across the driveway removed.

David- Nice work. Thanks for sharing your project.

Don- Thank you for the cardiac information. Our town’s safety complex is ~2 miles down the road and staffed by a small (one) full time PO and volunteer fire/ambulance personnel. With my 2 pulmonary 911’s the first responders were on site in <5 minutes. When my wife presented what looked like a cardiac event the first 2 responders were also on site in under 3 minutes, the first ambulance arrived ~5 minutes and the second in ~10 minutes. By the time the second (transporting) ambulance arrived there were a dozen first responders in our living room. It turns out Wifey had a pan-colitis event. It’s a 23 mile run to any of the 3 “local” hospitals. Those first responders saved my life.

Roy- I am happy to read that Suzette continues her recovery.

Billy- Thanks for sharing Myla’s SW Shepard’s Pie. My Wife cooks a Cajun variation usually w/o corn and now uses ground turkey.

Phil- Enjoy the FL weather while you can and I hope you shake your respiratory illness. I wish you a safe return.

RNG- Great news on the apparent fix of that intermittent electrical craziness.

I hope that everyone is having a decent day today.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Good morning to all! Low of 25, going up to 38 today, snow likely tonight. Winter storm warning goes into effect tonight until Saturday morning. Already snowing in the west and the Four Corners area. They are supposed to get 20+ inches. The weather guessers are not 'predicting' the amounts for our area....ussually not a good sign.

As an active paramedic, it is proven that AED's and early CPR intervention have increased the 'out of hospital' survival rate of cardiac arrest. One has to remember these studies lump ALL uses of AED's into the statistics, doesn't matter if it was used in the city or rural. Naturally, the closer proximity to an appropriate facility, the greater the survival rate. There are SO MANY VARIABLES, not one case is similar to another.

Another aspect of 'survival' is the time, as Don mentioned. Our service has 35-40 ALS (advanced life support) units on the street 18 hours a day, about 15-20 units between 01:00 to 05:00. A really good chance that a unit will be on scene within 4-5 minutes or less. These units have the capability to do EVERYTHING the ER would do in a cardiac arrest situation. We actually stay on scene and treat for up to 45 minutes. Also, the city fire dept responds, staffed with at least 2 paramedics and full equipment. They ussually get on scene about a minute sooner. If transport does take place, the unit may drive past 2 hospitals to go to an appropriate cardiac treatment facility.

As Don mentioned, the KEY is EARLY RECOGNITION OF THE SIGNS!. Better to get checked out than ignore the signs. The typical signs may not be present at all, sometimes are different, sometimes are only slight.

In my case, I experienced 'a pain' in my shoulder blade. It occured right after I loaded a patient into the ambulance. I thought I pulled a muscle. The pain was intermittent and not really severe. I got off duty an hour later and went home. I woke up about every hour for the next 4 hours with the same pain...not worse, no different areas. On the last time I was awakened, NOW I KNEW! Sweating, nausea, same pain but not going away. I called 911, took aspirin, and waited for what now seemed an eternity. Our local EMS is paid, staffed 24/7, and are 7 miles away. Took them 10 minutes to get here. Transport to the appropriate hospital takes 40 minutes (we are rural, up in the mountains). About 12 minutes away from the hospital, I went into cardiac arrest. There was only 1 medic in the back with me. He started CPR, and was able to 'shock' me once (defibrillated). I came back just as we arrived at the ER. I went into arrest again at the hospital during a catheterization procedure.

I'm here, no cardiac damage. The cardiologist has no idea what caused the clot to form in my heart. I had a complete physical including bloodwork just 2 weeks earlier. The bloodwork showed 'book perfect' levels of cholesterol, sugar levels, etc... The cardiologist stated that I had the coronary arteries of a 35 year old! To this day, no arrhythmias, no further incidents, no high B/P, no ???

To sum this all up....pay attention to what your body is telling you! You never know!

Jay.....are you sure you didn't ingest anything you shouldn't have? You repeated three times.... A "groundhog day" event?

Ted-

Yes & no. I got up way early this AM due to neuropathy and a complaining knee. I got lost in some strange cut and paste sequence trying to post here. The knee discomfort is new; it has not been an issue since the injury. I've really not done anything to PO the knee yet.

It seems that I had a long run of "Groundhog Days" recently

Ok, now am I nuts....Jay, did you correct your post or did I just imagine that?

......ok, now I see...

Ted- You are definitely not nuts. I was surprised to see how my original post posted. I am long winded on a "good" day. A forced reading of my posts in triplicate would be considered both cruel and unusual.

Well, the weather guessers were wrong again.... They said snow tonight... In the last hour, the temp has dropped to 22, clouded up, and is now snowing! I see where this is going.....

Good morning all,

Clear and cold this morning with -6 to start the day. The weather guessers were wrong...no snow yesterday although I can see the mountains did get some, the pine trees look like flocked Christmas trees. That's good, it tells you where to ride that has fresh snow. Going to ride tomorrow. :D

Good progress

Hadn't realised the Simpsons were staying with you, but why did you have to secure them ? Homer causing trouble again ? :)

All he does is hang around and hold things up.

I forgot to mention that I fixed the garage door that wouldn’t open when it was below 25. Turns out there was a story behind it. Ellen had tried to close it a few weeks ago and the wind blew a big box under it, the box was at an angle so the eye didn’t detect it and it crushed the box before enough resistance caused it to go back up. It slightly bent the top bracket where the lift arm connects and caused a slight misalignment, when it was cold the extra drag would shut it down. I took the bracket off and straightened it, works fine now.
Ellen said she just didn’t think about it anymore until the other day.

56°, what a pretty afternoon! Too bad I had to spend so long clearing that huge tree from the driveway! :D

More rain tomorrow and on the weekend, everything is soaked. At least all the snow is gone.

Glad you got opener fixed.
To bad you live so far away. I would be over there with my chain saw, tractor and chipper to clean up that fallen tree mess.

Snow casualty, grader got my mailbox with wing.. was working to make sure he didn't leave a berm, folded wing up, eased forward, stopped (looked like it might hit mailbox), but instead of raising the wing, he dropped it and took out my mailbox.. I went out and took some pictures to submit claim to county... grader operator came back up the road a few minutes later, stopped and called in to have the mailbox fixed or replaced (should be today or tomorrow).

Drunks take out the PO box cluster at the closest intersection with a weekend regularity and then the DOT plows come as needed  It could be worse if the local road crews did not mark roadside plow obstructions w/o discarded beer cans on sticks. There many reasons for a real P.O. Box.

Power came on about 30 minutes ago after saying it would be Sunday. Generator only 5500 watts does essential things only gas heat downstairs, gas hot water, well, a few lights and the icebox. Trees cut up with the help of a friend no way with arm I could myself. No internet today

Years ago when my parents were alive their mail box was bashed about every two weeks. After a year of this decided to do something about it so we made a steel one 1|4 inch steel tubing 3|16 house around mail box then set in concrete. About two weeks after that the police wake my dad up at 1:45 in the morning. Two cars racing one hit box took out radiator so both were caught minimum damage to mailbox

Sorry no pictures
