My grandparents house was opposite a disused quarry and lots of empty ground. Although not far from the centre of Sheffield, it was a really desolate place, with not a single tree in sight for what must have been 100 or more acres, even though the area was called "Park Wood Springs".My dad told me the wood disappeared after the end of the war(WW2), when timber was in incredibly short supply. I never thought to ask who had cut them down !
