16F @ 01:30 with light snow ... probably picked up 1/2 - 1 inch so far.

Got the tank racks laid out and floor planned in 3D, just have to pick up the lumber and build them.

Designed it so it can be done in stages ... will probably do two initially ... one rack for (4) 10G and (6) 20G tanks and a stand for the six foot 100G tank with space for a 55G sump underneath.

There's space for another 10/20G rack and another double rack up the center of the room, if I jigger some stuff around ... if it ever goes that far.

Basement overall is cold in the winter ... but if I shut the door to that room and close the cold air return, leaving the hot air register open, the room gets pretty warm (it's well insulated) ... will likely not need much electric in the winter to keep the tanks warm.

Will post some renderings tomorrow.

You have become addicted!

I too had that addiction.
As a teenager my Dad supported me with first one 10 gal, then a 20. I bred guppies at first. My budding addiction landed me a "part time" after school at one of the two petshop stores in Burlington, Vt. That was about when I was 16 and first got to drive. By the time I got to college I had taken over about 1/5 th of the basement with walls lined with fish tanks. A significant discount and salvaging leaking tanks fueled my addiction. That was when all tanks were metal frame, slate bottom, glass sides and putty. And since most of them were kept a 78* or higher I probably heated the house during the winter.

But college came along and I kicked that addiction about the time I started breeding and raising Discus AND gave up the job due to college. But I still have a 50, 29 and four 10's to set up in retirement. Be careful, tropical fish can be more expensive than tractors if you have to pay retail.

I have visions of little fish leaping from one fish tank to another in RS's master setup. Except having done this once upon a time, I know that some pretty little fish like nothing better than eating their neighbors, so assuming different tanks are for different levels of fish aggression.

Rick, very cool home made potato digger. I looked at the one "we" can buy vs the professionals, and it operates almost identically without the potato holder. Nice that this one collects the potatoes but makes it heavy and little tiller has to pull all those potatoes. Clearly this guy didn't like to bend over picking up potatoes. Smart!

20 degrees out and a nice little bump of warmth today before super cold arrives, might hit 50 today. Time to bring in the Xmas decorations before they get frozen in place.

Good morning all. 23 this morning going to 37. We got maybe a 1/2 in of snow last night. Wife will be happy. Don't know what I will do today, will take it as it comes. Mom is having a hard time, they took her off of one of her rheumatoid arthritis pills and she can hardly get around. They did not answer the message we left so we had to have the Dr paged and he bumped up her other med for a short time until she can get on something else.

Drew, looked at the same digger, I think, from Everything Attachments, was thinking of doing the potato, food bank thing but not doable now.

Rick, I like the way that guy thinks, smart guy. Thanks for the video.

Praying for you guys. Ed

Ed, thanks, it was the EA digger I looked at too, just forgot where to look this up.

Now I bet RS could make one of these diggers from scratch...his assembly line looks full at the moment.

I could buy 50 pound bags of potatoes and give them to the food bank for less than what these will cost me to grow, but
for sure it's the trip not the destination on this project. For now I'll use a potato plow and if it misses some, it misses some.
Once harvested, they will go in plastic sacks (box of 100) and while most given away, those I keep will get hung somewhere.

I have about three feet of headroom in my crawlspace but it has been mold renovated, covered in plastic
everywhere, and has a big commercial dehumidifier running constantly. I really need to put batteries back in the remote
that tells me the temp and humidity "downstairs".
I doubt potatoes want to be kept in a damp place but wonder about a too dry area.
I guess I can google what the perfect potato humidity is...
Otherwise I can hang them in my unheated but somewhat insulated garage.
Doesn't get too cold in there due to gas furnace in corner.

We've come out of the deep freeze for a short time. -4 and rising up to -2 Wind ENE 14 gusting to 21 mph and snowing a nice fine snow.

I think I will nurse this cold for another couple/three days, by then it should be all gone. I hope.
I really like to stay away from the pill pushers/over educated drug dealers. I have enough trouble paying for my own yacht without paying for theirs, too.

I will probably have a nap around noon or so, just because I can.

You guys that aren't used to the deep cold, try to stay warm.

-19F clear high upper teens, maybe dusting of snow.
Little to nothing plan for outside, again keep the toes and nose warm.

Enjoy the day all.

Don, try the free “Battery Life” app, works well and I have it on all my devices. Right now mine says Perfect. My 5s was at extreme wear, replace battery.

Drew, we use to bury potatoes with great results. We dug the hole and lined it with about a foot of straw, layer of taters, layer of straw, until you get them in there, cover with straw then dirt.
We lost nearly no potatoes this way.

Poured second cup of coffee. 11° with snow this morning. Heading to 13° with slight chance of sun peeking thru the clouds in afternoon. Got about 3" of snow since yesterday morning. Will get at that sometime today. Need to rebuild carburetor on Stihl chainsaw. Should be a good day to work on it in shop.
Also need to lower chipper on dolly. Lower links on chipper are at same level as maximum lift of 3 point hitch. I originally designed dolly with smaller casters. But remembered I had the heavy duty ones stuck away in a cabinet. They raised dolly by 2". Good thing height is adjustable on chipper. PTO height should be still within WoodMaxx specifications. Going to put that on my to do list. My back is still sore from yesterdays work in barn.
Prayers for all those needing to feel better.
Good Morning All.

No plans today.

Randy, good ideas about potatoes. Layering between hay makes a lot of sense.

Fireplace cranked up, logs crackling, 22 degrees out, have been having fun magic markering labels for veggie garden rows.
If I do join the local garden club, I expect my signage to come under scrutiny...;)

Pork would be a nice change. Yesterday was our fifth consecutive day of eating turkey. My wife cooks up some very tasty dishes with it, however I can't deny that the novelty of eating this once-a-year treat is beginning to wear off

Good morning all. Time on this laptop is hard to find again thanks to grandson wanting to play games. He arrived unexpectedly late last night with his mum and the baby because their furnace (I remembered to not say boiler!) had broken. This is about the worst time of year to get replacement parts, they will be lucky to have it repaired by Wednesday.

L4N - I hope your cold does only last days but beware, there is strain doing the rounds here that last 4 or 5 times as long as our Christmas turkey.

NWS forecast HIGH for today of 43, even though it's currently 44. But they think it'll go down to 29 tonight and then turn cold for a few days; low of 14 or 15 the next 3 nights, so we'll see. I had 3 cups of coffee, then went and filled both cars with gas this morning, and now having my 4th cup of coffee. Plan to just stay in the rest of the day.

Eric, my wife finished our turkey yesterday, too.

Randy, I never heard of storing potatoes that way. We used to spread them on hardware clothe on a 2 x 4 frame in the cellar, then sprinkle lime on them.
