Whoa.
You continue to spout unfortunate nonsense in the middle of the night.
All I have ever done is tell the Truth. No exaggeration, no making fun of the guy just to make fun of him.
I have to deal with him almost every day and he is a paranoid delusional alcoholic.
Since you seem to be offended by my "reporting" I'll try to report less.

You can't denigrate someone or something when you tell the truth. I am literally the only neighbor who will have anything to do with him.
Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade.

If you are looking to throw rocks, please find another thread. If you are looking to defend an unfortunate, you are barking up the wrong tree here.
At least I'm glad you understand that Quakerism is built on compassion, since you brought my faith into this.
Let's move on.
Drew - You are learning the value of the "ignore" function. However when someone quotes a poster on your ignore list you still see their posts. :(

thanks, I sure see that in the Tesla semi thread. I wish I'd never started that.
I mean, when someone responds to another, and please excuse my language, this is verbatim, That's a dumbass answer right in the middle of a cordial discussion by others,
seems to me you just have folks looking for attention. Any kind of attention. Same mentality as the folks who throw litter and trash on my roadsides. Just verbal trash.

Now if Eric were to reply, Now Sir, that is just tommyrot! I'd probably enjoy that...:D

REALLY?????

Just more PC BS or a troll without a clue? Drew is likely this guys best, maybe only benefactor.

I think we're being a little rough on a new member of the Good Morning community, aren't we?

As Drew had written, if Thall knew the history of Drunken Farmer, he may not have made that post...
Although I read his post as being in jest, not serous at all....

33 right now...high in the low 70's today. Looks to be a beautiful day ahead of us!

Long day yesterday (left at 0430, arrived home just after 2000). The meeting was OK...concerned AS 9100 (aerospace version of ISO 9000) and how we're to incorporate the upcoming revision to that specification.

Now that I've bored you all...
No particular plans today....no mandatory chores...so, we'll take it as it comes...

actually...you aren't. Standards are our highways to progress. And keep planes from falling out of the air.
My own view on this world is an observation of a steady lowering of the bar of standards in general.
Perhaps more social standards than engineering ones.
But my Father probably thought the same thing.

That's mighty generous of you. But that's too far to tow equipment. One day I'll rent one locally, and you can teach me how to operate it.

Always up for a weekend trip and happy to share my knowledge no matter how limited it might be

Thall is tired of me calling the guy a drunk and thinking I'm poking fun at the guy's misfortune. If he was right in that assumption, he would have every reason to
give me a piece of his mind. But my neighbor usually has a sippy cup with him sloshing cheap brown liquor all over the place, and his hooting and hollering in the middle of the night
is legendary. His weaving around on his tractor while totally blitzed is a sight to see.

I may be compassionate but I also believe the best defense is a good offense. So I'm doing whatever I can to enable my neighbor to better tend to his land. And in the process I'm learning something about farming, which really interests me.

I haven't seen his posts before...so, I'll withdraw my comments above.

I've followed your posts, Drew...so I do know the history of your neighbor. I'm just not real happy about a TBNer being accused of being a troll without just cause.

Buckeye how is the Polaris treating you and are you still happy with your choice?
Love it, but haven't used it too often. Take an occasional trip to the back of the property. Have friends coming over tonight, wife said to give them the ranger tour, lol.
Just starting to do some physical work since I hurt my back. Almost went 2 months wihout using the kubota.

Neighbor borrowed my PHD, have it mounted on a pallet rack, so i forked it outside for him, then brought pellets to the house the other day.
He just had a barn built last week.

Plan to mow the field today with my small massey. Much older than drews new one, It could use some tlc, like oil change and a good wash. Hope the tractor napper stays away from here, but might keep the dirt disguise on just in case.

Dad sold another bull and more cows, he's down to 8 head left, mostly young from this yr. That will help him out.

Good Morning!!!! 47F @ 6:15AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Mostly Sunny. High near 65F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.

When comments from certain posters consistently lose basic qualities of politeness and kindness and become judgemental and mean spirited, it's time to limber up the Ignore feature and move on. Just sayin' life's too short to be wasting any of it on Trolls.

Riding buddy arrived safe'n'sound yesterday afternoon as the overcast was breaking up, and in plenty of time to enjoy a nice sunset and a wee dram of Scotch. The Instant Pot of spaghetti turned out wonderfully, and we had a nice hour or so going over maps, looking at options for our route today and possibilities for day rides over on the coast. Looking forward to a dirt road or two later today, and good camaraderie in the days ahead.

BTW, Don, the Instant Pot got a good review in the latest issue of Consumer Reports magazine, though I don't understand their complaint about not being able to brown chicken. I browned three dozen meatballs yesterday without problem, just using the High setting of the Saute function, and it was hot enough I had to pay attention or they would have burned. They also failed to even mention the slow cook capability, the one I use the most!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I was at bobcat dealer a few yrs ago looking at their new tractors when they came out with them. Said something about a mini ex, the sales guy said hop on and run it, just dont dig. So i did. It was fun, i could get used to it. My neighbor had one last week to trench electric to his new barn.

I never got my speed queen yet, still planning to. Wife finally went and looked, she liked it.

A late Good Morning from me, more like Good Afternoon, but one bit of news to tell.

Yesterday we went over to Manchester to collect our grandson from school, as his mum had gone into hospital.

He missed her last night, but cheered up this morning when we were able to tell him that he now has a little 7lb 6oz baby brother.

The low this morning was 20*, yesterday's high was in the 60's. A cold front came through with a lot of cold wind and snow showers. Today's going be in the mid 40's with 20-30 mph wind.

Some neighbors and I are going to work on putting up a electric gate on the bridge that goes in to our subdivision today. It's going to be more then a one day job.
Hope to work on block heater later. Going to fallow the instructions to a T this time. Going flush it out and change the antifreeze. I checked the power and found the extension cord I was using had a intermittent ground. Not sure if that was the problem. So going do everything right this time.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

54F and partly cloudy @ 09:30, high today of 74F.

Went in and got the board up done on two more windows yesterday. Also stopped on the way in and talked to Mike's neighbor Bill about septic systems.

Earlier this month I got a letter from Summit County Public Health about their new deal on septic. Bill got one too.

Starting about 5 or 6 years (?) ago SCPH started coming out every couple of years and inspecting septic systems for "proper operation". They were out here at least twice, no problems or issues. For this honor, one was presented with a bill ($30 I think) for the "license" (good for two years) to operate an STS.

Now it seems that they've gone to a system where they are no longer doing the inspections themselves, but are having licensed pumper/haulers/septic contractors do the inspections. IOW: the folks that have a invested interest - aka profit motive - will be the ones examining your system and telling you whether or not it's up to snuff ... and whether it needs work done or, heaven forbid, needs replaced.

Absolutely no possibility of unintended consequences there I'm sure ...

Anyways, I called our tank pumper/hauler - who we've been dealing with for 30 or 40 years - to see what they are currently charging to pump the tanks ... and what they get for the fee to do the "inspection".

The call lasted 7 minutes ... a several minutes of which the guy spent away from the phone locating our records. The call did not go well IMO.

The young man first informed me that since we were a long time customer we "qualified for billing". Later in the conversation, he stated that because it had been so long since they had been out, we DIDN'T "qualify for billing". I have no idea what that actually means (have to pay in advance ? at time they do it ? what ?) ... because the conversation didn't last long enough for me to ask.

According to his records, they hadn't been out since 2004 to pump the tanks. That doesn't seem right to me ... but I guess it's possible, time flies. I do remember that the last time they were out, the guy that did the pumping said there wasn't much in the tanks. That was with 4 people living here. Just me and the wife at this point and has been for years.

Basically, I wanted to know what they charged to pump the tanks, and what they charged for the inspection. Found out that it was $75 for the inspection and - I think - around $290 to pump the two tanks.

The reason why I say "I think" is that by that point the conversation had started to go off the rails ... and the guy was starting to talk fast and was getting a little hostile. I was civil and polite ... at least until the very end, and even then ...

The reason for that apparently was I asked him "How full do the tanks have to be, before they need pumped ?"

Apparently, this is some form of sacrilege against the septic gods.

His reply was that since they hadn't been pumped since 2004, they most assuredly did need pumped.

Well, okay ... that's probably true (OTOH, I've heard of tanks not being pumped for 20 or 30 years and the systems were still working fine)

But how full ? (objective standard)

His reply: 12" (of sludge)

I asked the guy at the septic pumper/hauler: "Is that 12" of sludge from the bottom of the tank or 12" from the overflow ?"

He said "The bottom"

(Later I told Bill this and he laughed (Bill was in construction all his life and worked, at times, for various septic contractors before he retired) ... and said "At that rate, you could be pumping them every 6 - 12 months ...")

So I explained to the guy from the pumper/hauler that I was just trying to get a handle what on the LEGAL REQUIREMENTS were, and the costs involved ... to be in compliance.

The letter from Summit County Public Heath lists out what needs to happen every two years on the inspection (check sludge levels, check distribution box, check inspection port, check discharge pipe, evaluate final effluent quality, etc.) ... but they DO NOT mandate a time frame for how often the tanks have to be pumped.

That makes total sense ... since the septic load is going to vary from residence to residence. No way a residence with a family of 6 year-round is going to have the same load as a residence occupied by a retired couple who spend 6 months of the year in Florida.

About this time the guy from the septic pumper/hauler says to me: "Look, I can't spend an hour on the phone with you going over all this ..."

Hmmm.

So I says: "Well, I certainly don't want to take up any more of YOUR EXTREMELY VALUABLE time ... perhaps I'll give you guys a call at some point if we decide to use your services ..."

Like I said: I was completely polite and civil throughout the entire conversation ... until the every end, when he informed me that he couldn't spare a couple of minutes to answer a few questions ... from a long-time loyal customer. And even at the end, when I told that I didn't want to take up any more of his time, I expressed it without rancor, in a more or less matter-of-fact way. It wasn't until after I got off the phone and got thinking about it that the slow burn really started ...

Had I been treated in a manner which indicated that they valued our business, I probably would have gone ahead and just scheduled the pumping and inspection with them. As it stands now, I'll at least be checking with other pumpers/haulers in the area for a price.

On another note, while we were over at Bill's I got to alert Bill and share ol' Seth's mugshot and warn him to be on the look out ... :D

He shared his photos of two thieves he caught ... in broad daylight - and held at gunpoint with a 12 gauge pump until the police arrived - that were trying to rip his neighbor off. The clincher was that they tried lying to the officer that responded to the call ... and at that point the officer said "Ok, you're going to jail ..."

Pretty funny seeing those dudes laying face down on the ground with their hands behind there backs ...

Either one of them could have easily been mistaken for Seth (same look, shaved heads, etc.)

This pile of dirt has been sitting here for quite a while. It's just downslope from the area where I plan to store firewood, and kinda impedes drainage from that area.

Decided I'd move it over where it will get more sun with the compost that needs screened,

What I already moved over there is visible in the background:

Decided to use some of it to build up the area where I'll be storing the split wood and level that out some:
