Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #61,801
No rain to speak of overnight at ranch, sidewalks dry, maybe a peak of sun.

Streets in front of Richmond Home dry. High water there was about half way up driveway. There are homes with 10' of water less than 2 miles away. Looks like we picked a good place to build.

Worst is over here?

   / Good morning!!!! #61,802
It's raining away here, still haven't seen the wind they predicted this morning, maybe coming. Cool, around 65 here.

Drew, my home, personal liability and cars is $2640 year, I've been with State Farm for 33 years and I might save a little somewhere else, but when I need them they never fail me.

   / Good morning!!!! #61,803
The morning low was 47*, yesterday's high was 92*. Looks like today is going to be sunny with a chance of showers in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 80's.

The neighbor is widening his driveway. He borrowed a excavator to cut back a hill and I ran his skid steer to move the dirt down the hill. Had a few hours of fun doing that.

Not sure what today will bring.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

for sure a good company Randy. Mine totalled over six grand and I had to do something. I need to sell the Jaguar frankly and get back to one car and one truck.
I told the agent I had no desire to leave him; he is independent and represents many companies. What I needed him to do is get me into a cheaper company, and he
has. Squeaking wheel for sure.
Having taught every word of the homeowner and auto policies while working for Travelers in Hartford, I usually know a lot more than the claims person who calls. I know they need good
paperwork and I know they don't want to be abused. Other than that, this is contract law and they have to obey the contract. Like in your claim, they only pay the full replacement value on either the building or contents if you actually replace the item. Otherwise they make a partial pay, usually about 60 to 80 percent of the claim and then wait for more paperwork to document why they should be paying more. It's all about the paperwork in that business, and making sure when the company auditor reviews the claim file, that all the right documents are in there.
Less about saving the last buck actually. Each person has about a hundred or two hundred files on his/her desk. They need to move them along and they get judged on number of days.

I found it interesting that when I called Geico this morning, once they had my social and address, they knew exactly what cars I was driving, down to the VIN numbers. Good old public records.
Not much is private for sure.

I've never driven a skid steer CWB and I'd like to try.

got a call from Kubota dealer that they found the disc harrow in Fayetteville and they are driving over two hours each way
on Friday to go pick it up and bring it back to my farm.
Pretty good service...though nothing is free but a thank you.
and in the salesman's case who is giving up half his day to go pick up a harrow instead of selling tractors, well I'll have a little
thank you envelope for him. Along with my sincere thanks since he already had a full day.
So I expect to have some fun with that shortly after it arrives. Need to play with different angle adjustments and see how it bites in.

so on Friday around noon I'll be sitting out at the end of my lane with the Kubota with the forks on front, as the locals ride by
remarking I'm sure: Now what's that Yankee up to now? So far owning two tractors seems to have gotten me some respect...this
is farming country and for sure they check out your truck and your tractor driving by. Wife, family, truck and tractor. What more
could a man want?...well...another tractor.

64.1F and overcast @ 10:30, high predicted to be 76F, 20% chance of rain.

Got almost all of the rest of the gravel moved from the south side of the polebarn yesterday ... just a little left at southwest corner.

Since today was trash pickup day I went ahead and welded up the trash/recycle can picker-upper yesterday to move the cans up to the road.

IMG_1115.jpg

Seems to work pretty good ... waaay easier than loading them into a cart or a van. We'll see how it holds up long-term ... probably should add a bit of gusseting.

IMG_1113.jpg

After that I started digging into the screened topsoil behind the barn and moving it to the slope on the north side. With the way the weather has been lately (cool), seems like this would be a decent time to try and get some grass growing on that slope.

Need to refuel the kubota, then probably back to working around the barn.

Or you can get one that'll work with iPhone and Android devices and wireless to boot:

Amazon.com: BlueDriver Bluetooth Professional OBDII Scan Tool for iPhone, iPad & Android: Automotive

There must be hundreds of 'em at Amazon!

I used one a while back on the BMW car. It would give me the codes, but darned if I could figure out what to do with them. Today's vehicles rely on so many sensors and actuators, all of them interacting, that you really have to understand the relationship between them all to make any use of the codes. That's where a good independent mechanic comes in. They have the experience gained from working on many cars, hopefully similar or the same as yours, and know how to troubleshoot first, then fix, the problem.

Screw all that. Give me a simple carb, Hall effect ignition trigger, coil, and sparkplugs and forget about that modern junk.

No, they came out with a "platform independent" browser based package Ross-Tech: News. Downsides are that it's $449 and only for VW-Audi Group cars.
Yeah ... they certainly seem pretty proud of it ...

Good Morning!!!! 92F @ 9:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 102F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

Worked in the garage until about 1PM yesterday, came in side for lunch and stayed. High was 108, barely made into the 70s for the low. Fall may have arrived in the Northern Tier, but Summer's still kickin' butt out here.

How do you assess an insurance company's solvency (ability to pay), Drew? It appears I could save a pretty penny by switching to Amerprise through Costco, but would like to know they'll still be around if they get hit with a barrage of claims from an event like Harvey...

Happy to see some sunshine peeking out for our Texas contingent.

From the looks of things, RS, you could fill those cans with bricks and that bracket wouldn't even break a sweat, let alone a weld. Just don't forget your ballast out back!

Some interesting and informative discussion going on over in the Hurricane Harvey thread. Too bad some can't conduct a conversation without engaging in time wasting hyperbole and exaggeration, but then I guess that's why Mohammed invented the Ignore tool.:confused2:

Still working over the saddle bag brackets on the old bike, and it looks like a little cutting and welding will end up with something that'll work. Had a nice conversation with the importer yesterday, who allowed that the brackets on the reproductions I'd purchased were much better than the originals, but they still weren't good enough to write home about. He's tried to engage the manufacturer in Slovenia, but either they're not interested in his suggestions or the language barrier is insurmountable. As with the British motorcycles in years past, I'm supposed to be satisfied that such goods are even available, but to a man with a hacksaw and a welder, there's always room for improvement.

They paid everything but personal property at replacement value, building, siding, etc... in the case of my mower and tractor, as you said, I'll send them the actual receipt and they will reimburse the difference. Same on any tools I replace, many I won't replace, some were over 40 years old and obsolete in my world today.
It's amazing, the cost of that little building fire was around $74000!

Do you think you have enough power for carrying 2 trash cans? :)

I always feel that I'm doing severe overkill when I use my M4700 to carry the trash a mere 100 yds to my roadside trash pickup site.

my experience was that the problem was more often not the payment amount, but folks simply can't remember all the "stuff" they had in there on a bad loss. You get to claim just about anything of value and the bigger the list (honestly) the more you get paid. Building claims are pretty simple, once you get past the big issue of whole roof or partial roof, all siding or some siding. That's the biggest upset item I saw in about 30 years of claim review. Smoke and water usually ruin more than fire, and on a hot summer day, you will find out if the renovation folks did their job on the fire damage, you'll smell it on a hot day if they didn't.

lovely day here, 68 out going to 82. I have to go see insurance agent to sign auto insurance app this morning; my complaining saved me almost $700. That paid for new front weights for my Massey! Geico was still almost $300 less, but for that amount, I stuck with local agent. After all, I was one for 20+ years, so I really understand what my guy is going through.

North Carolina has an Assigned Risk plan that is such a loser that all of us in NC pay 9.8% extra on our auto policies to keep the State from losing money on this. Ten percent extra....for the kids who were chuffing glue and ran off my country road about a half mile down straight into the soy bean patch.
They found them sprawled out the doors, minor injuries, stoned senseless. This is what I'm paying for huh?....

Poured first cup of coffee. 61° with fog this morning. Heading to 79° with some sun in afternoon. Got wiring done on yard light. Got rained on as I was picking up tools. Grandkids coming again today. Going to put larger wheels on pellet grill. Way to heavy for one person to maneuver around and drill 5/8" holes in 4 legs. Will disassemble to do it. Then drill on drill press.
Irv, glad to see your post.
Lenny, looks like you have lots of projects.
Drew, No Fault car insurance that we have here in Michigan has got to be the worst. Plus the catastrophic injury is $160 for every car insured in the state. Then purchase uninsured motorist. Why do we have no fault insurance? With all the discounts I can get cost is over $1200 per vehicle.
Good Morning All.

wow. You must be paying for all the Detroit drivers...
I have watched car insurance climb from 300 per car to 1000 per car over the years. I bet California is high too.
Congestion and litigiousness (how sue happy are the locals) account for a lot.
