6F and .03 inches rain last 24 hours. Light rain falling as I type.

Might be an inside day, but too early to tell.

Be safe
Have a great day

17 years of dust bunnies smote. Lord what a mess behind that desk; old network cables, everything wrapped around everything else, but it's done. Laptop happily working off the house router; will disconnect that at the last moment.

I hate to say it, but I'm getting caught up. Now it's the mover's turn. I could use a day or two of rest before the unloading begins.

Next week I have to drive back North for an important last doc appt, so I've arranged for the trucker to come for the second load of tractors and equipment next week. And that should do it.

Not so fast! You still have to plan your next "Go west, not so young man, II" trip. :)

oh I can tell you that's just first thing on my mind....:D

I'm actually watching a netflix movie tonight for the first time in six weeks.

and yes, once the storm is over, all vessels, land and sea, shall move again.

80 degrees @ 17:30 and mostly sunny ...

Just woke up ... must have been stirring a bit before I awoke ... 'cause there was a hot cup of coffee sitting next to me when I finally came to ... :D

Came down to the house at about 06:30 or so to grab a quick bite and after I had my English Muffin with peanut butter and honey it was all over ... laid down for a little nap and that was all she wrote.

Finally got my welding lid cleaned up ... that turned into a nightmare ...

Went to replace the outside lens cover with a spare that was originally included with it and the first hint that it wasn't going to go well was when I started to remove the plastic protective film on the first side ... it came off a little hard. I flipped it over and started to pull on the second piece of plastic - the edges came up easy enough but the further away from the edges I got, the tougher it was to get the plastic to peel away.

It ended up taking more than an hour - maybe more than two - to get the plastic protective film off that one side ... and I tried various things to release it: heat gun, sticking it under scalding hot water for a couple of minutes, sticking it in the freezer for 1/2 hour ...

I tried pulling on it (it would tear before it would peel away), picking at it with various things (fingernails, credit card) and what I was finally left with was taking my thumb and pushing it with just the friction between my skin and the film ...

Once I had that done I was able to replace the inside lens cover with no problems getting the film off.

I had previously decided I wasn't entirely happy with my modification to the parts washer drain plug - the hole and pipe threads were slightly crooked and the hole size (1/4") was marginal ... so I chucked up a 3/8" four cutter end mill in the drill press since the 1/4" end mill had worked so well, and bored out the hole in the drain plug to 3/8":

IMG_1416.jpg

I then took a 1/4" NPT pipe union/coupler and clamped it and the drain plug in one of grandpappy's old Jorgensen C clamps and glued 'em together with the MIG. Took two stabs at that, trying to get a leak free weld before I gave up and just soldered over the area where it was leaking with some 50/50 tin/lead solder. Seems to be working - the weld provides the strength and the solder provides the seal. It's not under any real pressure so I think it will be fine. I'll know for sure when I go back up there in a bit ... lol ...

Once I had the drain plug installed in the parts washer and I went and finished up the plumbing for the filter and the electric fuel pump and filled the parts washer ...

IMG_1423.jpg

The performance of the fuel pump at 35 gph was less than exciting, but it will probably do the job. If I elect to upgrade the pump at some point with one with greater flow, I could plumb it into the CPVC "air agitator" and turn it into a "fluid circulation" system.

Degreasing will be on the menu tonight.

Had an open box of hose scraps that the mice had gotten into (full of grass seed) cleaned all those off ... will box them up tonight in a box with a proper top that can be closed.

Drilled four pieces of 1/4" plate that will be the mounting plates for the drop-down casters on the small welding table. Also drilled out some 3/8" angle for the lower lift pins for the boom pole. Started a little mod on the bandsaw ... but I needed two machine screws of a particular size and length ... and of course, even with all the organizing and putting away, I only had one ... lol ... ya can't make it up ...

Put up a shelf over the parts washer for the battery charger and swapped a shelving unit, which was in the back corner and hard to get to and access, with the large trash can which is used for electrolytic de-rusting.

More tool organizing, derusting, and clean up ...

Was nice to be able to make some sparks again ... might do some more of that tonight. Need to find my welding cap tho' ...

Had a good day today. I changed a couple of gates around, so that my sister's little dog can't get out of the back yard. We are watching the little guy, a yorkie, while my sister recovers from a health problem. Really hyper little guy, he is learning not to challenge the 85 lb boxer, or the shepard mix. The goat imtimidates him, but I have to yell at him to make him stop chasing chickens!

rsw, yep, I think the bird is indigo bunting. Wish I could say I took the pic, but I didn't. One of my hobbies is bird feeding in front of my large window overlooking our woods.
I haven't quite gotten to the point of getting organized enough to make it a hobby yet ... but I'm doing similar: our living room has a large picture window overlooking the backyard which is surrounded by woods. Three of our feeders (two thistle, one suet) are right outside the window ... so we have regular visitors that come up close to feed.

So far, I've identified 47 species. That includes buzzards, crows, etc., anything that's a bird got on me list.
Outstanding

I don't think I have an indigo bunting, but the other day I saw a rare summer tanager. They look like a red bird, but kind of rare here, and no top notch, no black around beak.
I was thinking I had seen one of those here, earlier this year ... it was on one of the feeders that was further away from the house and even using binoculars (through a dirty window ... lol) I couldn't quite make out exactly what it was ... no crest and no black around the beak tho' like you say.

Apparently I've put up enough bird feeders around the back of the house - five of them - that we've managed to attract a number of different species. Was feeding mostly black oil sunflower in three of them until we ran out, and Nyger thistle seed in the other two ... along with one suet feeder.

Lots of gold finches ... along with some other kinds of finches (some are reddish, some are greenish), Cardinals (big finch and our state bird), Blue Jays, Mourning Doves, Nuthatches, Chickadees, and some others that I haven't been able to identify yet. A couple of different types of Woodpeckers as well ...

Lots of dead standing timber in the woods around us ... which is great for cavity nesters.

Also put a couple of bluebird houses a year ago as the start of a bluebird trail ... one of the houses has been taken over by house sparrows ... but we had a pair of bluebirds in the other one that successfully fledged one brood with three young'uns ...

Love being able to go outside and hearing all the chatter.

Wife - who is in the kitchen - just reported there was a hummer out by the window.

Whew, still ho' here, mighty ho'.
Stay cool ... and enjoy the view ... ;)

1500 hors and 77F. Absolutely gorgeous day. Made it to a high of 78F about 1330.

Worked out the kinks in mounting my pool fence panels, but alas, only enough 3x2 aluminum angle to mount one panel. Will have to go to town tomorrow and buy some more. Just wasn't happy with the way the mounts from the old fence worked. These should last a long time.

Taking rest of day to just do nothing LOL

56 right now....high of 85 today and clear. Going to be a nice day!

Had a pretty good weekend...everything mowed and trimmed. I got a few hours on the tractor mowing the field and about two hours or so on the zero turn mowing the lawn. Sunday was perfect weather for outdoor work!

Well, didn't win the lottery, so I guess it's back to the grind today...

Vermont primary on Tuesday...and tonight we vote on the school budget.
