73F and sunny @ 13:45, calling for a high of around 75F for the day. Low this morning was 51.4F.
Really slow getting rolling. For some reason I was not sleepy last night and couldn't fall asleep, was up until around 06:30 this morning.
Got a couple gallons of water put around the posts yesterday first thing.
Then swapped out the 12" auger bit for the 6" and proceeded to auger what I thought was the short post hole, couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting anything.
Got off the Kubota and took a look ... turns out it was the wrong hole ...
Tried on the correct hole and had better luck there ...
Then decided to go ahead and drill the post hole for the H-Brace for the southeast corner post using the 6" auger since it's only for a 4 x 4.
Managed to corkscrew the 6" auger all the way in ...
Spent the entire afternoon trying to get that freed up, including a trip up to the shop for the larger pipe wrench ... which was actually on the desk in the master bedroom ...
Finally managed to get it unstuck around 06:30. Nothing obvious in the hole that was causing it to corkscrew ... other than dirt being a little more moist, which isn't surprising given the proximity to the septic leach field.
I think the key thing with the smaller auger is to raise it more often, to clear the dirt out of the hole ... so it doesn't bind/grab quite so much.
Tamped down the dirt around the posts before I knocked off and called it a day.
Main item on agenda for today is to move the hay wagon over where the van currently is so I can work on the posts in the shade.
Refuel the Kubota.
Will grab another bucket of dirt while I'm over at the barn to build up around the 2 corner posts.
Probably tamp the dirt around those some more now that the water I put on them has had a good chance to soak in.
Clean up the one post hole I dug yesterday.
Swap out the 6" auger for the 12".
Beyond that just see what else comes up.
Hope everyone is having a decent Wednesday ...
