84F and partly cloudy @ 12:00, calling for a high of around 89F for the day. DP 72F, HU 70%, "feels like" temp = 94F. Sunny skies this morning will give way to occasional showers this afternoon.
Checked live trap first thing. Trap tripped, bait can overturned, nobody inside ...
Refilled hopper feeder, also scattered some seeds for the ground feeders. Now out of regular bird seed mix.
Screened compost that was in the Kubota's bucket was very wet due to all the rain requiring more effort to shovel. Took that over and dumped it next to where I planted the winter squash under the maple tree at the southwest corner of the house.
Then headed up for a refill with some drier material.
Decided I'd go ahead and fill the planting bed on the west side of the shop while I was up there after clearing out some rocks. That took 6 bucket loads:
Best/largest Rose of Sharon seems to be thriving:
Got a bucket load of screened compost for planting the arbs after that and came back on down to the house.
Got another 2 arbs planted and watered in.
Still have some peat moss left ... but probably not enough to do another arb.
Decided to start hauling down woodchips to mulch around the arbs after that.
Stopped midway through that to check the gear oil in the Kubota's front axle. It was fine, leakage seems to have slowed way down.
On the next trip up I hooked up to one of the ash logs took down the other day and drug it up and added it to the pile of ash logs.
Hauled down 7 bucket loads of wood chips total, still need more.
Woman made a nice meatloaf for dinner with mashed potatoes and brown gravy, sauteed yellow squash, and cucumber slices with blue cheese dressing.
Garden check after dinner yielded another zucchini, a pair of yellow squash, and a couple okra. The squash went to the neighbor lady.
Got the biggest Hubbard Blue cradled in a sling to support it:
All the winter squash on that side - Hubbard Blue, Hubbard Golden, Guatemalan Blue, and Waltham Butternuts - are fruiting. Will need to keep a close eye on those.
Did some pruning and weaving work on the tomato plants on the straight trellis. Probably got 90% of the pruning done, had to stop due to lack of light.
On agenda for today:
Finalize Menards order and maybe go pick that up later when it's ready.
Refill tube feeders.
Spray brassicas with Sevin.
Maybe some more arb planting later after I pick up more peat moss.
Haul down more woodchips for mulching around the arbs.
Maybe start the mowing down here around the house.
Other than that just see what else comes up.
Hope everyone is having a decent Monday ...
