Getting crowded here. This is just the ones out front. Almost hit a doe and a fawn that ran out in front of me yesterday, was a good brake check, yep they worked.

Good Morning to all who Celebrate! Currently 80° going to a high of 93° sunny and clear but so humid you can cut it with a knife.

Finished up most of the mowing, still have the hill left, not that you can tell the difference. With all the heavy dew in the mornings, the grass is just slurping it down and then enjoying the sunshine. Normally this is the time of year where the grass starts giving up the ghost due to the heat. Guess not this year.

Took another shot at a groundhog on Saturday with the .17HMR. Sadly I'm 0-3 on that. I had a sneaking suspicion, so I drove out to the range. At 100 yards, the .17HMR will barely move a steel plate. I think at the ranges at our place I'm just not getting the energy needed to make them DIT since shot placement is not a luxury I always get. So the .17HMR is retired from groundhog duty and I'll step up to the 6.5 Creedmore. Is it over-kill? Yes, absolutely. But I'd rather them be dead than wounded. I'd like to get my hands on a 22-250, but the gun safe is uncomfortably full. So maybe once the bank balance has recovered from the trailer, a new gun safe is in order.

While I was checking for the groundhog, I saw an interesting sight, A FedEx cargo plane headed West at low altitude, sneaking under the storm that had just passed. He was probably no more than 15 minutes out of Harrisburg. Was fun to watch him go over.

Had a good conversation with the realtor on Friday night about an old fixer upper farmhouse. He's on a mission trip in Africa but immediately knew the farmhouse in question and had seen the place. Says it needs a lot of work, but the people are motivated to sell and I could probably get a deep discount. Hmm...I'll have to see it myself. Once he's back this week, I'll try to schedule a time to go look at it.

Other goals for this week include: Mowing whenever the weather allows, Tags for the new trailer and then seeing what else pops up.

Y'all stay safe out there in this heat and be well! Lots of water and A/C!
Prayers for all Ailing and Recovering!

Good morning, the low was 66 and going up to 85°F. Wind SSE 5 mph. 30% chance of showers. That was when I typed this up. Now it is 76 going to 86 and wind SSW 14 gusting to 24 mph. 40% chance of a T-storm this afternoon. What a difference 3 hours makes.

I am up too early, but the good thing is that I can go back to bed for power nap around 7:00 or so. Got my power nap in, down at 7 and up again at 10. Thanks pussycat.

Not much on the books for today, maybe change the blades on the mower, maybe not.

Have a safe day all

71°f and .0 rain

Finished up mowing on the Laupahoehoe end of property but I swear it’s already tall enough to redo hehe, but not this week. Now to mow Hilo end.

Need to make PO run, hopefully my oiler cooler will be off Waikiki holiday.

Happy hour in town this afternoon at the golf course.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

84F and partly cloudy @ 12:00, calling for a high of around 89F for the day. DP 72F, HU 70%, "feels like" temp = 94F. Sunny skies this morning will give way to occasional showers this afternoon.

Checked live trap first thing. Trap tripped, bait can overturned, nobody inside ... 🤬

Refilled hopper feeder, also scattered some seeds for the ground feeders. Now out of regular bird seed mix.

Screened compost that was in the Kubota's bucket was very wet due to all the rain requiring more effort to shovel. Took that over and dumped it next to where I planted the winter squash under the maple tree at the southwest corner of the house.

Then headed up for a refill with some drier material.

Decided I'd go ahead and fill the planting bed on the west side of the shop while I was up there after clearing out some rocks. That took 6 bucket loads:

Best/largest Rose of Sharon seems to be thriving:

IMG_3788 copy.jpg

Got a bucket load of screened compost for planting the arbs after that and came back on down to the house.

Got another 2 arbs planted and watered in.

Still have some peat moss left ... but probably not enough to do another arb.

Decided to start hauling down woodchips to mulch around the arbs after that.

Stopped midway through that to check the gear oil in the Kubota's front axle. It was fine, leakage seems to have slowed way down.

On the next trip up I hooked up to one of the ash logs took down the other day and drug it up and added it to the pile of ash logs.

Hauled down 7 bucket loads of wood chips total, still need more.

Woman made a nice meatloaf for dinner with mashed potatoes and brown gravy, sauteed yellow squash, and cucumber slices with blue cheese dressing.

Garden check after dinner yielded another zucchini, a pair of yellow squash, and a couple okra. The squash went to the neighbor lady.

Got the biggest Hubbard Blue cradled in a sling to support it:

All the winter squash on that side - Hubbard Blue, Hubbard Golden, Guatemalan Blue, and Waltham Butternuts - are fruiting. Will need to keep a close eye on those.

Did some pruning and weaving work on the tomato plants on the straight trellis. Probably got 90% of the pruning done, had to stop due to lack of light.

On agenda for today:

Finalize Menards order and maybe go pick that up later when it's ready.

Refill tube feeders.

Spray brassicas with Sevin.

Maybe some more arb planting later after I pick up more peat moss.

Haul down more woodchips for mulching around the arbs.

Maybe start the mowing down here around the house.

Other than that just see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Monday ... (y)

successful morning
after haircut, which was nice, headed to Popgadget's with rv.
took twice as long because both main roads were blocked with paving and tree work.
tis the season.
burned out lights replaced, all lit up when done, outstanding.
And since I was trying to replace the gen spark plug with the wrong one....(could have swore I doublechecked)
out came the old one and Paul had a spare right there. So gen is fully serviced now

filled up with gas on way home, least expensive I've seen in a while.

handoff of tomatoes made and time to come home and stop sweating.
by time I had rv hooked up again, shirt was soaked.
on really hot days, assuming I'm not going somewhere, I stay cooler without a shirt

tomorrow morning when cool will climb up there and clean/wax all the old mounting crud off; new one half the size of
broken one. I also have to silicone the upper running light.

weather forecast for next three days is very hot, mid to upper 90's, who knows what HI will be.
looks like I'm back on watering detail; this heat dries out the raised beds

Ken, I hope you are floating in your pool at lunchtime.

tempted to crank the a/c down a notch and take a nap
