72F and mostly cloudy @ 10:00, calling for a high of 84F for the day. Looks like rain is headed in later this afternoon.
Got Cub refueled yesterday.
Hauled around the soil sulphur for the blueberries and some 12-12-12 for the rhubarb. Need to get that put on at some point.
That can of Rust Oleum I grabbed from up in the shop also exhibtiing problems, paint only comes out when the can is held upside down. Apparently their "newly-designed and improved" valve has some issues.
Did manage to touch up the one recently painted t post and got the tops of the 2 t posts that had been driven into the ground touched up as well.
Got all the Hungarian Wax peppers planted and watered in, in between the blueberries/rhubarb and the pole beans. Turned out there were only 11 not 12. Used the umbrella to do that as the sun was out and very little cloud cover.
Only thing left at this point is the last 2 winter squash, about a dozen tomato plants some of which are pretty small, and the sweet potato slips.
Cultivated the area in between the peppers and the beans with the B&D cultivator to break up the soil which had crusted over.
Tied up some more cukes.
Rockbox ran out of battery a little before dinner time and things got quiet. Happened to look over to the west a little later and noticed that big, fat mama groundhog out grazing.
So I snuck up to the house without spooking it and removed the screen from the master bedroom window and opened it, took aim and pulled the trigger ... CLICK !
No shell in the chamber, out of ammo ... mama groundhog heard that and took off for one of the burrow entrances.
Went back after dinner and worked a little more.
Got soaker hose positioned and stapled down around the blueberries/rhubarb/wax peppers and gave those a good long drink.
Mulched the rest of the pole beans.
Was in the garden, sitting watching the bat ballet as it got dark. Heard a noise right behind me and turned and saw something scampering off. It went about 20 yards, stopped, turned around and stood up on its hind legs and started growling. Not 100% certain due to the lack of light but I believe it was a large boar coon.
Hard to say which of the two of us was more startled ...
Anyways back inside for the 12 gauge. When I came back out he was gone. Ended up sitting there in my new Adirondack waiting for him to return but he never came back.
Been having difficulty catching them in the live trap so I think I'm going to start baiting with some dry cat food in the evenings and just wait with the 12 gauge for them to show up.
On agenda for today:
Refill hopper and both tube feeders.
Front needs mowed again so maybe hit that depending on when the rain arrives (if it does)
Water/feed summer squash.
Maybe a trip to TSC to pick up another cattle panel.
Other than that, just see what else comes up.
Looking to be a decent crop of blueberries on one of the old bushes:
Pole beans starting to take off:
First Rose of Sharon bloom of the year:
Plant is now taller than I am.
Hope everyone is having a decent Hump Day.
