30F and snow likely tonight. Beautiful sunrise this morning but now already overcast.

Potholes have even migrated down our way. Worst year I can remember.

The Select board chose the other candidate. Apparently, she had some prior conversations with one of the Selectman (woman, actually). That gave me a bad feeling...small town politics... We'll see how she does... I wish her the best, but I got a feeling she talks more then does....y'know what I mean?

I'm sure I'll be asked for some type of volunteer work at some point...they say they're always looking for volunteers.

Don't take it personally. Rural New England small towns are distrustful of anyone who doesn't have grandparents in the local cemetery. I've had similar experiences with the Planning Board. The selectmen needed to appoint a full member and an alternate. They chose a longtime resident woman as the full member and I am the alternate.

That was almost two years ago and she has yet to appear at a meeting. Eventually, I asked what is up with that and was told she has a very controlling husband who doesn't allow her to do things.

The alternate only votes when there is no quorum of full members present. I usually end up providing the necessary quorum number to allow the board to legally do business. Whatever. My goal is to help where I can and not get involved in the nonsense--that's what TBN is for after all.

6*F at sunrise, clear sky. It feels like winter is starting over after those several warm days.

Drinking iced coffee. 71° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 82° with continued clouds and some rain. Got .3" of rain yesterday. Grass is growing. Going to a Sugar Cane Processing Plant today to see how its done.
Good Morning All.

31F partly cloudy most of day w/scatter snow showers in mid 20's.
Not so much pot holes this year but frost heaves..son of gun there some beauties.

The state road into town is only good for about 35-40 mph now--if you like your vehicle. It is really whacked up with pot holes, heaves, cracks, and still has some thick ice patches along the sides.

Now Toppop, you have to keep that mess down where you are; I just washed both cars by hand in that one 50 degree window
we had and I kind of like seeing what color they are now. Versus white and grey...yuk.

I am embarrassed to report that I have to move a brand new Toto toilet to my storage locker today, after I found that it has a much longer
footprint than normal and it simply would not fit in my main bathroom. The plumber said we were half an inch off at the very best, and he just could not install it that way. I eyeballed it carefully and unless I wanted to start rearranging sheetrock, I was beat. I had done all my research carefully and went to the bowels of Trenton NJ(pun intended...) to get this toilet from a wholesale place there. Measurements? what measurements. sigh.
So the plumber put in a perfectly fine Gerber model he had at his shop and sure enough it fit perfectly. He charges flat rate on toilets and boy did he take a beating on that job...all that wasted time on the first one. For once it worked in my favor; I normally don't like flat rates on anything. Hard to avoid.

quite an education for me...toilet bases can be very different in size...well, the toilet will go in the next house or shop, it will get used.

Daugen....you would think toilet bases would have a standardized footprint and at one time they probably did...let me relate what happened to my dad back about 1976: He purchased a house with cast iron drainpipes, and had someone tile the bathroom walls which required removing the toilet first, and the friend that reinstalled the toilet had to deal with about an inch and a quarter thicker wall behind the toilet, and the way he "fixed" the problem was to install a makeshift sheet-metal-and-wax bowl ring to funnel the waste into the drainpipe...and the toilet would never flush properly afterwards. After about a year later, my dad asked me if I could figure out why, and when I took the toilet out, I started laughing at the half-a** makeshift bowl ring. Spent quite a while installing a new PVC waste line....but the toilet finally flushed properly again.
