Good morning!!!!

Morning all, 58 going to 79 and cloudy.
Today son turns 17.

Got garage cleaned up and ping pong table ready for tomorrows birthday party. Out to dinner tonight.

Speaking of road maintenance. Though the town truck came through, they just cut back stuff the is in the road or over it.
So I need to get back out there and cut back the stiltgrass. Will wait until deep winter to cut back the brush.
However the cleanup I have been doing to the road area has helped out immensely and this years cleanup will be easier.

Be well,
Happy 17th Birthday to kenmbz son.

VDOT is the same as it was 25 years ago riptides
True.

I was not let down by their service.

1. They could not identify my road.
2. The first crew started back cutting for about 100 feet and disappeared. Leaving the cuts in the drainage ditch.
3. The second crew started back cutting in a different direction than the first crew and disappeared. Leaving the cuts in the drainage ditch.
4. The third crew showed up, said it looked all done, said picking up cuttings was not their job. They basically missed about 500 feet of road. Don't know how.
5. After a few weeks and numerous calls the drainage ditches were finally cleared.

The road still has about 500 feet where you have to move over to avoid greenery. The occasional tractor trailer makes a lot of noise hitting stuff coming up the road.

Our last conversation with VDOT, they said the road is contracted out and not their responsibility. That started and ended a lengthy conversation that got - nowhere.

We gave up.

More trees are coming down. This one is leaning against another dead tree that could if it falls hit the power lines and potentially land them in our driveway

Anyway, good luck with the drone. It is a very slippery slope of allowing others to film your property and potentially maintain a permanent record which you have no control over.
All good points. I plan to be there to watch what they're doing. Before they start, I'll ask if I can review the video and give some thought to denying permission if they refuse.

Back in the day most of us abided by same rules and most any observant adult could and would apply corrective action.
And if I may add, you were pretty much guaranteed a second corrective action when you got home, partially for the initial infraction and partially for embarrassing your parents by someone else having to correct you. That's how it worked in my case anyway.

LOL, yea seems there would be at least 1 altercation regardless of grade level.

A bit of clarification, I didn’t mean to imply any particular set of parents bore responsibility, but there has been such a drastic change in how kids are raised (trying not to get political) that I think parents maybe disadvantaged. Back in the day most of us abided by same rules and most any observant adult could and would apply corrective action. Would love to see a very broad based study on effects of so many changes and how behaviors have changed. But that isn’t politically possible.
I have a multi band scanner in my kitchen which I listen too frequently. Mainly to catch issues in my area but also for the general knowledge of whats happening.
The number of calls to 911 for issues that would have been simple parental discipline ( a good swift swat on the butt) are now a 911 call, an eight year old won't get out of bed, or dressed, or is throwing things around. An 11 year old refusing to go to school or just throwing a fit.
Kids (brats) calling 911 because a parent took away a phone or similar. Kids calling that a parent "assaulted" them, (gave them the swat they deserved).
Adults calling 911 because someone insulted them, or argued with them.
So many 911 calls that are just plain ridiculous, and then my favorites; calling in actions or behaviors of any and every kind but not being willing to sign a complaint. From driving issues to "oh my god someone is walking into the woods carrying a gun"
Or even better someone is sleeping in their car in the parking lot, or they have left a pet in the car with the windows only half way down.

Mine too. My Grandmothers' hand was real boney and it HURT when she gave me a lickin'. I didn't get a switch, I got a wooden handled clothes brush. With no mantel (no fireplace) to eat off of, I had to either smarten up or toughen up my back end. I chose the latter.
I threw my first stone at age 5, got my first and only windshield and one of many lickins to follow over the years.
