looks like derechos are back
they seem to come up quickly and do a lot of damage

I would think a pilot would want to stay far away
Southwest Michigan not far from Ron
reminds me to plug my weather alert radio back in
derechos and wind shear, is it always just a matter of getting enough altitude and leave the nasties beneath?
clear air turbulence or a derecho on the move?

100 mph gusts must get dicey in a small plane
  • The derecho began in Iowa then tracked through northern Illinois, northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.
  • A wind gust up to 105 mph was clocked in northwest Illinois.
  • Hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses lost power and one person died.

I really, really really don't want to encounter a derecho while driving the rv.
I think mostly driving in the morning helps, as in boating, but not always.
I hope to have an Ipad running on the dash with realtime weather data.
been so hot lately didn't want to leave expensive electronics in there.

picked up some local corn this morning, white corn, looking forward to having it for dinner.
local corn and NJ blueberries are both in.
Life is good

Drew, what is this gadget that goes in the camper AC?

found my fountain source, I didn't transfer O ring from the old plate to the new.....
Now have another test going, to see how far down it will drain the overfull brine tank. it's a pretty low siphon, so takes awhile. I'm hoping it takes it way down. Probably shouldn't be running so much water for the back flushes though right now.

My Dr visit was a basic waste of money also, but got to do it to get perscriptions renewed. Or stop taking BP meds. my BP was a tad high this morning..

Yesterday's post:

"Was 89F and mostly cloudy @ 14:45, was only supposed to be heading up to around 88F for the day's high. DP 69F, HU 55%, "feels like" temp is 95F.

Possibility of scattered thunderstorms (40%) this afternoon as daytime heating occurs.

Put out some seed for the ground feeders yesterday (Sunday) afternoon and then went back to weeding the hosta ring around the oak tree.

Got that finished except for the very center right around the tree which was too hard to reach. Will spray that later and cover it with mulch.

Then watered the hosta and started putting mulch down around the middle and outer areas. Got that all done, took 7 1/2 bags.

Took the half bag that was left in the cart over to where the summer squash are planted and started mulching around those. Opened one more and got that put down before a second storm rolled in. Still a bunch more to do on that.

Second storm was a doozy ... winds came up and we had a torrential downpour that lasted probably 15 minutes or so. Must have been pretty localized ... as the LWS in the area didn't show all that much accumulation. Ground sucked it right up.

Later after the rain had ended The Woman announced that there was another groundhog out back so I got up off the couch and headed into the bedroom to see if I could get a shot off.

Wasn't able to get the screen off and the window opened before it alerted and headed into its burrow. But not before stopping to try and munch on the caged summer squash plants ... 🤬

Woman says it has been out a number of times this morning ... and She has already taken the screen off the window ... (y)"

Today:

86F and partly cloudy @ 14:00, calling for a high of 89F for the day. DP 66F, HU 57%, "feels like" temp is 92F.

Several hours of screwing around with Woman's car yesterday. I noticed that it was low on fuel the other day when we headed over to relatives and Leadfoot was flogging it pretty good on the way over. But I bit my tongue and didn't say anything.

Probably should have ... as She was leaving from over there yesterday after picking up leftovers, the car started running rough and She claimed the "low oil light" came on so She shut the car off and called. Had Her get out and look for an oil leak. There was none so I had Her turn around and head back to relatives since She was real close.

Once She got there they supposed checked the oil and it was low. Relative added oil but didn't bother to check with the dipstick as he was adding and way overfilled it ... 🤬

They both "thought" the engine was "hot" (temp gauge showed normal)

Well, yeah ... you're driving in almost 90F temps ... it's gonna be a little "warm" ...

Coolant level was about 1/4" below the "Min" mark in the coolant recovery tank.

They also added some gas to the tank which got Her to a station.

She was wanting to head out and pick up Her new glasses as they were ready so I checked the oil (way too full) after She got back here, noted the coolant level in the tank and then spent some time on the internet trying to ascertain the correct antifreeze type.

Turns out that it was the old green antifreeze. Had an open jug of Peak that was that type so I topped it up.

Then had Her go directly over to Valvoline and get the oil changed as it was about due anyways.

I will probably give the cooling system a complete flush at some point in the near future and replace the antifreeze.

After that She picked up Her new glasses and did some grocery shopping.

I went ahead and refilled hopper and both tube feeders.

Kind of hung around inside the house after that to see if the groundhog would make an appearance.

Sure enough, one ventured out eventually and I got a shot off just before it headed back into its burrow. Nailed it.

She got back shortly after that and I took the dump cart and the Cub around back and scooped it up and took it up to the brush pile for the buzzards.

Hopefully that's the last of them down here around the house ... but I wouldn't bet on it.

Spent the rest of the day up in the shop working on friend's toothbar. Got all the bevels ground into the pieces with a snagging wheel and then got it clamped down onto the bucket and the topside welded. Knocked off around midnight and left it clamped up to cool overnight.

Today I need to flip it over and do the bottom.

This morning I came into the living room and sat down to start my morning coffee which The Woman brings in ... and then sez:

"I don't know if you want to mess with it ... but there's another groundhog out back right now ..."

Not wanting to waste the opportunity, I took the shot. Nailed that one as well.

So first item on the agenda will be to take the dump cart and the Cub around back and scoop him up and take him up to the brush pile.

Then off to finish welding up friend's toothbar and get started on cutting down the mounting bar for the grapple and getting that welded up.

Hop everyone is having a decent Tuesday ... (y)
