Good (Monday) morning. Overnight Low Of 10.1C and it's presently 16.9C, gentle breeze & mostly cloudy. There was 6.7mm in the gauge @ 0900.

Things are a bit soggy outside so it'll be an indoor dhobi day.

Due to the weekend's rain I didn't get to see the auroras. Fortunately I have magnificent memories of seeing them, at sea, with absolutely no 'light pollution'... warships typically night-run with only nav-lights & red-lighting.

And the eggs are a lot bigger!
My Dad raised peacocks, geese, ducks, chickens (of all sizes) and pigeons.
He often cooked breakfast for us on weekends and had a fondness for mixing egg sizes so if we asked for 2 eggs over easy it could be feast or famine.

A month and a half ago, we had 2 chickens. Then a friend of a friend gave my daughter 2 ducklings. Now we have a pea hen. That is noisy. The reason she is noisy, is because the chickens leave her behind. They will eat while she waits, then when they are done, they waddle off while the peahen gets some food. The chickens will go hide under a shrub or in the grass and the peahen gets nervous not having her new friends nearby. She's needy.
Truth be known, about 17-18 years ago I had bought and tried to raise 3 peahens and 1 male peacock. They ended up wandering off, leaving, to where, I'm not sure. I wonder if this is the offspring or 1 of the original baby peahens?

Good Morning!!!! 64F @ 11:30AM, still in Orcutt, CA. Partly cloudy. High 66F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph.
No sign of the aruroa last night or the night before; fog came in right after sunset. Probably too far south to see anything, anyway. I did notice a gap in the Davis weather station reporting on May 10th at around noon, but have no idea if that was caused by a Starlink outage or not. It's been steady ever since.

Disturbing news from Bill. Hope we hear from him soon.

Move wise, Kyle, I'm down to some big heavy things, each requiring a trip by themselves on a rented trailer, with room in the van for pretty much everything that's left. But the list of fix up stuff is pretty long. One is to paint the little 5x8 trailer, and I'll use the FEL to tip it up so it's sitting on the tailgate so I can paint the underside first. Then lay it down to do the rest. I wanna do that up north because the tractor won't make the trip south. So that's at least another week delay. Another is to replace the main valve on the water softener resin tank that controls the thing, but it won't be delivered here until Wednesday. I've given up predicting a finish date, and can only keep chipping away until I get there.

So far this trip I've only managed to unload the van, the majority of which is lengths of steel shapes that will land on new hangers in the shed out in the back yard. Lots of lifting and walking to get 'em back there, and there's another load of the same in the trailer.

The lawn was also getting toasty, so I fooled around with the four sprinkler controllers to get the water going again. That got me wondering about how much it will cost to irrigate things, as I'm not used to paying for water. Here are the rates, to which are added about $25/month of administrative and tax fees:
Tier 1 - 0-14 CCF or 10,473 gallons - $4.318/CCF or $0.5772/100 gal. or $0.0057/gallon
Tier 2 - next 28 CCF or 20,945 gallons - 44.966/CCF or $0.6639/100 gal or $0.006639/gal
Tier 3 - over 42 CCF or 31,418 gallons - $5.711/CCF or $0.7634/100 gal or $0.0076/gal

Water ran for about 45 minutes during the tuneup, and the Flume Water meter said I used almost 1000 gallons. I'll have to keep an eye on that meter over the next week to get a better handle on what that'll do to the water bill.

Last Christmas I spent a few days glamping at a lodge outside of Kernville, and purchased some chandelier type crystals in antique shops in town. A few days ago I found them hiding in the bottom of a courier bag I use when traveling, and finally this morning rigged a ladder to get up into the skylight in the living room to hang them. Woohoo, sparkly rainbows all over the walls and ceilings, but only when the sun hits the right angles. As my old 6th grade teacher Mrs. Mauer used to say, "It takes so little to amuse some people".

I'm thankful when my buddies and I get together, we don't need drugs or dope to have a good time. We just see who can fart the loudest, and it gets us all laughing....TMI but cheap humor.

I'm suspect of your 1000 gallons used in 45 minutes, in your sprinkler system. It might be right but you might have a leak somewhere. My family of 5 uses about 6000 gallons/month for average usage. Around $55.

Church was great, pastor and family came over this afternoon to visit for 2 hours or so. Nice visit. Their 18 month old daughter loves the birds.

Watched the last supercross races, they were good, but the expected guy won the 450 race. He's one of only 3 rookies to win the big class in history.

It is a cool 69F and my chihuahua was shivering while outside. It felt nice. Humid, but nice.

I have been to Don and Karen's ranch house, back before they moved, and it was spotless. I can't begin to imagine the difference between "company" clean and "sale" clean.

Could be the same peahen, they can live up to 25 years in the wild.

"Sale" clean is "company" clean plus a knock-out list that only a home inspector or a very picky person would see. For example clean all windows and screens, put new weather striping on front door, touchup paint in various places, clean out all closets, remove all personal items (photos) etc etc . . . .
Realtor came out today for a home evaluation, I gave her a list of 60 upgrades\improvements to the house by the builder the first owners and me. She said the house shows well!

Good evening all. 65ºF for the start, overcast, light breeze. Light wind periods of rain showers with rumbles, and high temp was 67ºF, low temp 64ºF during rain. Made coffee to start day, helped chapel setup, attended chapel, helped with tear down, breakfast with group. Was having trouble staying awake, so had nap at noon, made chicken chalupas, watched History channel and watched the rain.
David lot of peacocks in Missouri and they are vocal! Nice double rainbow.
Ron hope pond close to ready for summer. Hope you were able to get grass mowed. Nice cardinals.

Poured first cup of coffee. 56° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 79° with cloudy skies and wind. Got some more cleanup done on garden pond. Mowed grass in afternoon. Got it done in 1.5 hours. About 15 minutes longer that last year. I have added about 1/2 acre this year. Not much planned for today yet.

Kyle, I remember about 10 years ago hiking in the mountains when I came up on a peahen...in the middle of nowhere...took me a while to figure out what it was...looked so out of place...was not shy...guess it wandered up there from a farm in the valley.

Had a good day with Della...not a single "accident" in the house all day...of course, it's partly because I had her outside with me a lot. She did go to the door once to scratch to go outside for a poop, and we haven't even taught her that. Hope I didn't just jinx myself for today. Taking her to the vet for routine health check today.

Grilled chicken and vegetables, including home grown asparagus, for Mother's Day last evening.

Interesting that the mockingbirds brought their baby to our front porch to feed on mealworms yesterday...it just squatted there...looked like a whippoorwill. My wife said it was for Mother's Day. The phoebes and bluebirds have been hitting the backyard spot where we place mealworms for their babies, too...on the ground below the hummingbird hooks, close to the house. Mealworms are expensive and we are too generous. But watching them beats most other types of entertainment. Speaking of whippoorwills...they sure have been noisy back in the woods lately.
