11.03 amps running on full heat, about .1 amp when not.
I turn it off manually every night. Gizmo tracks on time and juice used, not total time.
I need to study the manual more.

sump pump plugged into same outlet. Not good. I can't easily trip the sump pump due to a yukky lid on it or I would have put
the gizmo on that line also. Pretty sure it's way more than 4 amps on startup pumping water.
Which means I have to remember to turn off the hot tub if a storm is coming. Hmmm.
Panel box absolutely full so no more new lines run easily.

only other available outlet for sump pump is the 110VAC outlet behind washer where it plugs in.
I think the question is if I have to disconnect something temporarily, what would it be? I think the washing machine.
Only use it once a week usually.

And the moral of the story is obvious, the last one you disconnect ever is the sump pump.
Because you will forget to plug it back in.
Depending on your breaker panel you can get some double single pole breakers that will get you two in the space for one.

BRILLIANT that they stock that stuff, it lasts for DECADES ... what everybody needs :)
Good (Friday) morning on this sad day. The overnight Low was a warm 15C! It rained overnight, coincidentally starting at what turned out to be the hour of HM Queen Elizabeth II's passing... indeed, it is still raining and there was 9mm in the gauge. It's presently 15.2C.

As soon as I woke and heard the news, I lowered my flag to 'half mast'. I have the honour of having sworn allegiance to HM upon my induction into the Navy. I'm 'gutted' by the news and have shed many a tear this morning.

That's about it for today, take care all.
Absolutely, Wagtail. As Canada’s Queen, she is on our coins and on the back of our $20 bill. And our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in his tribute after her death, “She was my favorite person in the whole world”.

I am just sad that I never met her in person despite her many trips to Canada, and I have watched pretty much all of the movies and what not about her. 70 years! What a reign!

And now we have a King, which I have never had before. It will be an interesting adjustment to get used to the idea that there is a King of Canada.

R.I.P, your Majesty.

For that they can leave the tank, I might need it

One thing I remember from power systems classes is DC is better for long distance transmission. The problem with using DC for that is short circuit interruption, AC is easy to interrupt.

My wife does not like the looks of solar panels. I would want to ground rack them over the hill out of sight, which is then longer distance. I’m waiting for my retirement house to install. Might be a long wait
It seems you have a unique set of circumstances.
If you get an average of 3' of rainfall or more your getting about 22 gallons per square foot annually.
If you put up solar panels with a rain collection system of say 2,000 sq ft that could provide 44,000 gallons of water annually, and probably 30kwh of electricity.

Good morning to all! Low of 60°, going up to around 83°. Temps over the weekend supposed to drop into the 70's. Hopefully the start of fall. The good chances of rain have now moved to Sunday, but still have moderate chances tonight and tomorrow. We can still use a few days of rain.

Cloud cover this morning, so I'm going to try and get the axle on the Jeep all finished. Need to do the brakes and get it filled with gear oil. Hopefully will get it done today. Then start the rebuild of the transfer case. It's already on the bench in the shop. After that.... the Jeep should be done.

RS, pace yourself.... sounds like you're getting a lot done!

David, another job well done! I will mix up a bag or two now, any more and it gets too hard. We are lucky, there is now a "you haul it" concrete plant about 4 miles away. You can get anything from a half yard to 1.25 yards. The little carts have a 6' chute, so fairly easy to get the concrete unloaded.

Roy, we don't bounce anymore.... be careful! A railing is a good idea. I am seriously considering putting grab bars in the bath /shower.

Wng, have a good hike!

BEF, a mini vacation sounds well deserved! I have been contemplating the same.... just not in the cards right now.... too much to do.

The abdominal / GI issues left as soon as it came on. Ate as normal yesterday, no issues. Definitely strange. Must have picked up some weird bug from the grandkids.... schools are a petri dish for bugs....

Well, time to go squeeze some thick gear oil into an axle.....

Everyone have a great day!

Good Morning!!!! 89F @ 6:45AM. Sunny. Near record high temperatures. High near 110F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

80K sounds high for a batteryless system, Paul. Some things I've learned along the way:
- Each utility has its own policies for selling and buying power to solar equipped homes. Here, PG&E puts you on time-of-use rates with much higher prices for power during peak demand hours. They sell power at $.40/kWh, but only give me $.04/kWh for what I sell back to them. But that only goes at the yearly "true up", where each kWh I sell offsets each kWh I buy one-for-one, and the rates apply to any difference either way. For my circumstances, it makes no sense to generate more electricity with solar than I actually use, from a financial standpoint.
- Look at your power bills over the last few years and get a feeling for how much you actually use. That will help you size the solar array output. If your utility provides data for each hour of the day, see what time of day you're using power, and if a solar power system would provide most of that power or not. Consider shifting high power demand tasks like laundry or dish washing to times of peak solar array output.
- Some inverters have 120 VAC outputs that can be used for recharging batteries or powering small lights during a grid outage. Otherwise, when the grid is down, you don't have any power even though the sun is shining.
- Switching household loads from grid to generator may not seem like a big deal, but most modern electronics expect an uninterrupted power supply and behave erratically if power is suddenly removed and then re-applied. Computers and storage systems with spinning hard drives are particularly vulnerable to failure if they are not shut down properly before they lose power. And Solid State Drives may become corrupted if power is lost during write operations. Most things that use electricity don't like seeing a surge or sag when power comes back on, and walking around turning everything off before starting a generator, and then turning everything back on once it's going, gets old fast. So protect those systems with a UPS, and remember to shut them down properly when grid power is lost, before the UPS battery goes flat.
- The federal tax credit for solar power systems is gradually being phased out, so the sooner you finish your system, the larger the tax credit. A lot of state tax credits are doing the same.
- Most of the work of installing the system can be done by a handy person such as yourself, but if something goes wrong good luck getting support from the equipment supplier, especially if they are not located in the US of A. Even then, if multiple vendors are involved, it often turns into a round of finger pointing, instead of problem solving.
- Carefully check the background of a solar installer if you use one. Ask for references, and talk to them. If possible, visit some installations and inspect the workmanship. You might be surprised what passes for "good enough".

Often times, Frits, buying a replacement for something that is lost is the only way to find the original item...

I found shorty extension cords on Amazon and use them under wall warts so I can use all the outlets on a power strip, Drew. Maybe you could set a timer on the hot tub so it heats at night when power is less expensive and maybe there aren't as many loads on that circuit? Depends on how fast the tub cools off, though.

Good to hear from you again, Bill. On my last trip down south I saw several trailer loads of tomatos scattered across the freeway by accident. What a mess, but it happens every year at harvest time.

The bank is closing the branch I use, so yesterday I went there to empty my safe deposit box. Took a long time to find it, as the boxes had somehow been rearranged. I've read horror stories about how boxes had been mistakenly emptied, and started to wonder if the same might have happened to me. Enough that I don't plan to get a replacement safe deposit box, and will just rely on a fire safe here instead.

The machine shop I was hoping to use for the cylinder head work I need is super busy, which was no surprise, but the man I spoke with yesterday that does the work wasn't interested in doing some of what needs done. Now I need to decide if I send it out of state to a specialist, or learn how to do it myself. As if I have nothing better to do...

I noticed a nice new video on the CrossTalk Solutions channel this morning about WiFi access point placement.

Was going to take some target practice this morning, but it's already uncomfortably hot outside. Gonna be a nice afternoon for a siesta...

TGIF gang!🍻

We have them...had been installed by the previous owner of our house.
I strongly recommend grab handles

70°F and .02 inches rain.

Wx permitting, getting a start on another round of flail mowing of the outside areas would appear prudent.

Shoulders telling me they may have been over used a bit yesterday - wimps.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Roy, be careful out there. Saw something a while back about exercises for us mature folks to help with balance and reduce falls.

oh my, lady from Giant food store just confirmed they can give me three month supply of Celebrex for arthritis for 31 dollars using the Good RX coupon card.
CVS wanted 281 dollars this morning with my prescription drug coverage. These folks said it would be 200. But with the discount card that cost me nothing,
final cost is 31 bucks. This system is so broken, cries out for better regulation.

needless to say I just switched pharmacies.

memorial service was packed, I sat off in corner away from folks, hope I don't get sick.
Did not stick around for lunch afterwards, just too many folks packed in small places.
Not family or close friend so just being an elder of church and making an appearance, getting folks to sit down, tell them
where the bathrooms were, etc.

now to get in grubby clothes and go water my radishes.
