Good morning!!!!

Good Morning!!!! 40F @ 5:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 49F. Winds light and variable.
The 10-day is calling for a bit of rain to start the week, and a bit more next weekend, with sunny skies and moderate temps in between. We're still below average for rainfall, but above the average for snow pack in the mountains.

If you liked the Thin Man movie, Billy, there's a whole series of them featuring the same leading man and woman.

Tesla has long threatened to release a self driving semi-truck into the world, Chris. I'm all for progress, but as the American Motorcyclist Association keeps pointing out, these new inventions haven't been tested enough with motorcycles, bicycles, or pedestrians to be considered anything like safe. Just like the internet is a far cry from being anything close to the reliability of the old Bell Telephone system it is supposed to replace. New year, same old worries.

I do have a lithium jump starter, Bruce, and even had it with me. But I also had jumper cables, and the folks in the next cabin offered their big Ford van as a donor, so that just seemed simpler. Truck started right up, of course, with that little bit of extra TLC. Still going to do that load testing on the batteries, especially since I went back through the maintenance records and now find that the current pair is five years old.

Welcome to the GM thread, Realtornz. Always nice to have another Kiwi join in!

Hope you stopped the antibiotics soon enough to save your shoulders, Kyle!

Made it past midnight last night, thanks to the talkative friend with whom I shared the cabin. They've been having trouble getting their sister to follow the hospice nurse's instructions, and the usual pain medications don't work well for her pancreatic cancer pain. New meds didn't agree with her stomach, which kept her, her husband, and my friend, up very late. All I can do is offer sympathy at this point, but at least it's something.

Got a new set of brakes ordered for the truck yesterday, then spent the rest of the day in the attic patching a failed Ethernet cable. Replaced a 10' section of the line, which meant installing four new connectors, which was almost assured to result in at least one that wasn't done properly. But since I checked each one with the Pockethernet tester, it was no surprise, and only a little more work and another trip up and down the ladder to get it working again. Hopefully the new cable is a little more resistant to chewing than the old one. Now I need to get some traps set up in the attic.

Hope everyone's year gets off to a great start!

Good morning! 70˚F cloudy heading to 78˚F and then dropping to 27˚F tomorrow morning. Need to cover a few fruit plants in the back yard and today will be the first trip to the vegetable garden in 20 days. Whipper got to sleep bedside till 12:30 when the fireworks stopped.

Knee was itching last night - I'll take it as a sign of healing, and it took a lot of willpower not to scratch it in my sleep. A nap for sure today.
Mostly I'm taking 1/3 to 1/2 the prescribed dosage of pain meds. It depends on how active I am and how far PT pushes me. Can't wait to be all healed and go on long hikes again. I know Whipper will be happy also not to have her walks cut short.

Hope everyone has a better 2022 than 2021.

I was interested to see that the US has finally built a decent modern train.
Headed to S. Florida in two weeks to visit old friends with home in DelRay Beach, near Boca, and am taking the Amtrak
to get there. Roomette, will lock myself in, bring my own food, and sanitize everything. With my laptop and Kindle and portable wifi I should be fine.
this looks like a nice way to get around. Wait until they finish the connection to Disneyworld.

Glad you are doing better Don.

Yep...William Powell and Myrna Loy...IIRC, there were 5 or 6 flicks with that couple and characters
Trivia: "The Thin Man" was not the character William Powell played (he played Nick Charles). That was a short role for the actor who played the thin man role, even if it was the title role. But both Powell and Loy were so associated with the first movie, all the sequels had "The Thin Man.." in the title
Some of these movies are on YouTube and make great watching on a dreary Vermont day

Good morning to all and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It's been wild and crazy this past year, hopefully the next will bring some more normalcy.
Didn't make it to midnight, only got to 10:30.

Don, great job getting to the ROM goal. Keep up the good work!

Popgadget, sorry to hear about the shingles outbreak.... I guess that could be good news....

RNG, sorry to hear that your trip was cut short. I am assuming that you made it home ok since you're posting.

We were under a "winter storm warning" last night for 8-12 inches.... woke up this morning to wind and maybe an inch of snow. Sometime during the early am, I heard heavy rain. Looks to be about a half inch in the gauge. Not complaining about either the snow or the rain.

It has been a successful week.... got the tractor, mower, PHD, box blade, and BH into the garage. I even had the chance to add some casters and a board to the back of a base cabinet drawer unit. It is used for everything associated with the drill press. Now it can be easily moved.

We have decided to upgrade our RV. Called about 8 dealers from Tx, CO, NM, and Az. I found a new one over in Mesa Arizona. Contacted the dealer on Monday, spent a few days negotiating a deal. Then contacted the other dealers to see if they could beat the deal... nope.

Usually, Tx dealers have some of the best prices. Two dealers there told me to "jump on that deal", they couldn't come close to matching, let alone beat the deal. So, sent the Az dealer a deposit. I 'll go pick it up next Thursday.

So, now I have to clean out the old RV (I'm trading it in). It has been sitting for 2 years due to the knee situation..... and it showed.... With how dry and windy it's been over the past 2 years, the inside had a light coating of dirt everywhere! Got out the shop vac and started cleanup. Vacuuming up all the dirt was easier than I first thought it was going to be. Got it all cleaned and polished on the inside. I still have to clean out the outside storage compartments. Probably won't happen today....

I need to find all the paperwork and title for the RV.... I will probably go on that witch hunt today.

Everyone have a great day!

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou - Happy New Year
May you be prosperous and healthy.

65°F and .05 inches rain.

Sophie’s Covid test posted - Negative. Now to hope tomorrow’s flight isn’t cancelled.

Made important purchase yesterday, an iron. Needed to apply the laminate counter ends. A little $13 Black & Decker job that I swear is better than any previous owned. When we moved in 2005, Sophie made decision her iron wasn’t going to make the trip. Coming from the gal that started and pressed my BDUs I could respect that. What I didn’t get was one of those laminate router bits. Sanding those edges is time consuming.

Today is also Kekoa’s 5th birthday. That put’s him past middle age in our male boxer world. Time sure flies.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Morning all 52 and rainy-was warm enough to grill steaks outside with only a t-shirt on.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Mostly - Picture is Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
PopG- hope the shingles not too painful and goes away soon. Like the fabrication work
Drew- no more decorating with blood please
LS - congrats on the new RV- When are you coming east?

Neighbor was doing fireworks last night at midnight-fun to watch but dog was freaked out.
With Kid off to friends for sleepover, and our friends not able to make it due to covid exposure, it was just the two of us, up till about 3am and had fun. Tired now.

Stay safe and be well,

Another pic from the past- Galapagos reef sharks. there was a school of hammerheads that stayed on the edge of where we were, very shy and could not get a picture.
