txdon said, "Carrots steamed just right have the exact consistency as hot dogs. With the right spices it would be hard to tell the difference except for the amount of salt in meat hot dogs. We had carrot dogs for the 4th."

You come up with a lot of new to me recipes, but that's certainly something I've never heard of before.

Need to pour first cup of coffee. 68° with fog this morning. Heading to 87° with sun when fog clears. Severe storm came threw the Metro Detroit area yesterday evening. Left 1.5" of rain and lots of flooding and power outage. Never lost power here. Did not get a full day of conserving energy yesterday. Got a couple of small projects started in shop. Will see what today brings.
Missed full moon Friday. But it popped out of the fog this morning.

Phil, nice tractor.

Don, Granola sounds good.

Buckeye, good awning project is done.

Drew, culling of deer needs to happen here also. The park to west of me has more than double deer than there should be per square mile. There is lots of food for all of them this year.

Kyle, good daughters computer is working out for her. RD article was kind of my thoughts on many fires out west.

Bird, stay in the cool house.

RNG, like your report on RD story.

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

62° right now...pretty wet outside, but doesn't look like it's raining now. Supposed to see more rain this morning and clearing up this afternoon....high in the upper 70's.
Reckon I'll pull the rest of the split rail posts. At least, see what I can do....I'm a lot better, but not 100% yet. If I'm up to it, I'll trim some branches and do my string trimming...

Question for you guys...any of you wear a respirator or mask when mowing? If so, what do you wear?

Good Morning. It's 57F @ 2:50 this morning. Not quite as cool as I would like outside. Going to be a chore getting the inside down cool. I use big fans to cool the house.

Clear and hot is the prediction for today.

Moss - so far I've only had the barest of traces of smoke here. If it gets really smokey, like last year, I just stay in the house.

When mowing grass - I check the wind direction. I try to always mow so the dust moves away from my direction of travel. I've got pocket gopher mounds. They can and do result in a tornado of dust.
It's not always possible but works about 90% of the time.

And, NO, I do not wear any type of respirator or mask.

Buppies - I know our summers are ALWAYS hot but this "heat dome thing" is the real PITS. The unfortunate part - it keeps me here in the house where its cool. So far, we have been extremely fortunate - only the lightest of wisps of smoke. And only for short periods on a couple of days.

I think, real hard, about projects that need to be done around the property. Nothing is so important that Brownie and I need to be outside in the afternoon. So we scurry around in the early AM and retire to the cool of the house in the afternoon.

We are both doing fine - it just kind of cramps our style.

good morning all
hard time waking up this morning, slept well but tired from party last night. Shouldn't have asked for that cup of coffee after dinner,
my coffee may be half decaf but that Keurig cup wasn't so I should have stuck with decaf iced tea.

cooler morning, up to high 80's in rain and storms this afternoon.

Toppop, school board sets big strokes not fine details, very sensitive to not getting into teaching skills, that is principal/head of school's job.
Half the board has to be Quaker and there are teacher and parent/pta reps on the board. There are four local Quaker Meetings/churches that support this school
so there is a rep from each supporting church on the board, mostly for faith guidance. I represent one of those Meetings. School founded in 1794 and has almost full enrollment
for next year. Last time I was on the board school had a variety of leadership problems, today both head of board and head of school are super qualified. Nice to join something that
is well run. My first meeting is in September.

landscapers came late yesterday and moved my four butterfly bushes. I think two of them have drowned, see if they will come back. Testimony to how much rain here, bushes near
drainage ditches are drowning, not quite like California... We all want to send our rain to RNG.

Installed the Lock 'n Lube coupler to grease gun and greased the new mower spindles a few days ago, not at all happy where JD places the grease zerks, body of coupler too fat to fit in space
easily but I think I got them all. The zerks are underneath a horizontal "ledge" of sorts and you can't see them without putting your head down at deck level, which is sure not too comfortable for me. Operating "blind" with a messy grease gun doesn't seem to be a good idea. Floor jack worked fine after I reversed the wheel holders, had put it together backwards. Pumping handle though bangs into grill of mower, clearly this lift was mostly designed for a zero turn. But handle could be angled a little off to side so able to make full hydraulic pumping action.

hoping coffee will wake me up, sitting in Meeting and falling asleep during silent worship is not uncommon, but a bit embarrassing...

being retired means we can go back to sleep, right?

Toppop, one of the questions I have is what history books the school uses, how they deal with modern issues like Critical Race Theory, which is a sort of new
concept for all of us to understand, but not here. Oh no.
One of the board members is dean of students at Solebury School, a local non denominational private high school. She's black, highly educated of course and drove in
with a new white F150 Platinum with the eco diesel. Two thumbs up for that. She and I chatted for awhile, she was pretty curious about my minoring in Black Studies.
It's a different world than 20 years ago when I was on this school board before, world sure has changed. The school tries to stick with enduring values and be as flexible and inclusive
as possible. For 22k a year. You really have to want the faith component to send your child there because local high schools rank 9 and 10 out of 10, thanks to very high school taxes.
So if it's free to give your child a very good public education, like I had, why spend 22k a year for potentially 8 years?
The why is another topic not for here.
So while curriculum is off the table for board discussion, hard to totally get it off the table.
Pretty sure any of you that have sent their kids to faith based schools have dealt with same issues.

Buckeye, I hope the concert was good.

another mug of coffee coming up, maybe cranberry pancakes this morning.

Styx show was great last night, REO was too loud and I only knew about 5 of their hit songs.
Ears are ringing. We left at start of encore, we could hear the songs fine walking to the car.

No rain came, is was west of us and died out. Tonight we are in the open, hope it doesn’t rain. They show rain this afternoon than clearing by show time.

Toppop, good car show.

I decided to stay in hotel again after tonight’s show, so won’t show at work tomorrow. Practicing for retirement.
