Good Morning!!!! 60F @ 7:15AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 86F. Winds light and variable.
Looks like it's gonna be just about another perfect weather day.
That's one bright red cardinal, Ron. Easy to see where the priests got their name.
Welcome to GM, mwemaxxowner. Where's home?
Tarped over the extra wood pile yesterday, maybe three cords that wouldn't fit in the storage container. The old tarp I used has seen better days, and didn't quite reach the ground at one spot, so to keep the embers out I got a bucket of dirt and dumped it along the bottom. While I was down getting the dirt, I watched three does wander from their shady spot under a tree over to the solar panel array. One made a move toward the fence, but got a foot from it and shied away, almost like she'ed already had a dose of the fence charger. All three kept moving down over the hill. When I came in for lunch, I looked out the kitchen window and there was one of them laying on the front porch! Now I've got nothing against deer, but the ones here are so lousy with flies, lice, and ticks that I don't want them anywhere near me or the house. Tapping on the window didn't seem to bother her, but she moved out pretty good when I opened the front door and yelled at her. I think it's maybe time to start shopping for a paintball gun and some pepper balls.
Got email from Medicare yesterday confirming receipt of my application, and reiterating the 30-60 day wait. Talked to a benefits manager at my former employer and he confirmed that they're working to extend my existing coverage. I let him know that the wait for Medicare would very likely be more than a week or two, and he updated the request to reflect the time change.
Topped up oil and air on the old zebra bike in preparation for the upcoming trip yesterday morning, and replaced two batteries in the little handlebar mounted clock. I couldn't even see the screws holding the batteries in place without magnifiers, and the back of the case took a sharp pocket knife to pry it off. It's almost like they really didn't want anybody going in there to replace those batteries. Anyway, I need to go for a little ride this morning before it gets too warm to make sure everything else is OK, then off to town for groceries and other errands.
Got about an hour of digging in yesterday afternoon before the tractor lost all hydraulic power. Looking down between the back wheels showed a gusher of hydraulic fluid coming from the top of the transmission. By then the dipstick was dry. Put almost ten gallons back in before it showed again, hoping I could at least get the tractor down the hill before it ran out again, but it wouldn't build pressure at all. Removed a fender and several covers, and it looks like it's coming from one of the new hoses that were installed with the port forward last summer. There's a steel hard line in the same area, and after thinking some more about it last night (instead of sleeping) I went up this morning with a strong light to make sure that line wasn't cracked or holed, and it looks fine. So I'm off to town this morning to the hydraulics shop, with both rubber lines hoping they can find something wrong with one of them. If they do, I'll get them both replaced. Then pick up another ten gallons of Super UDT at the Kubota dealer. They're always so happy to hear me ask for it, at over a hundred bux a bucket...
