good morning all. Lovely day today, warmest yet, going up to low 60's today.
lot of folks with too much rain, David/Sodamo glad this is not your island:
The mayor of Maui has asked some residents to evacuate and others to shelter in place due to flooding that threatened to cause a dam failure earlier Monday and has already damaged or destroyed at least half a dozen homes.
www.cnn.com
and I read this morning that the Ohio River has overflowed and flooded Louisville.
I have a birdhouse to build today, and my Dell pc came in yesterday afternoon, with a big hole in the box, but thankfully
no damage. Will plug it in after breakfast and set it up next to my old pc, ready for data swap.
spec on processor is interesting: 10th gen I7-10700 8 core processor, 16M cache, 2.9ghz to 4.8ghz.
Why do they show a range of speeds for the processor? 32gb RAM, 2933hz.
I expect to see a big speed jump since this old pc is really loaded down with hanger ons over the 8 years I've had it.
Video board is NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super, 8gb
Basically I tried to spec one whole level below top level gaming, pay too much for state of art spec, last years's good spec is fine
with me.
USB 2.0 and 3.1 ports provided, lots of them thankfully. Since I assume the reason for the 3.1 is to get faster throughput, if I hook a 3.1 up to a 2.0 (file transfer for example)
does it dumb down automatically? Or do I have to go 2.0 from old pc to 2.0 in new?
Once upon a time I used to sell pcs in my Radio Shack, wow what a long way we have come. I remember selling a 10mb external
hard drive for $699. It was lightning fast compared to a floppy grinding away.
So many acronyms in electronics, I have a hard time following RNG and David setting up their high tech internet.
I know some basics from building a lot of Heath kits (I bet a bunch of you built them too) but now I'm a dinosaur
watching the parade of new tech go by.
Hope you all have a lovely day. After dinner I get zoom interviewed by head of local Quaker K-8 school board, they want me back on the board and on their finance committee since I have a professional background in green investing and that's exactly what they want. School is full for next year with a waiting list, which is wonderful.
I went to Buckingham Friends School only for first grade but it was a fine way to start schooling, went to public school all the way through from 2nd grade on.
Since little New Hope HS was ranked number two school in PA, I basically got a private school education anyway, 53 in my graduating class.
