62F and mostly cloudy @ 13:00, headed up to a high of 69F.
Good morning/afternoon. Been a busy last couple of days it seems like.
Spent most of the day before yesterday the FS 66 brush cutter - once we finally found the shoulder strap - to cut down the weeds around the peonies and the rest of the circle, gather them up, and incorporate in compost pile. The fronds of the ferns have all died back and fallen over at this point and all the pachysandra can now be seen. Hopefully this coming year, we'll get vegetation killer applied when the weeds come up ...
Got a little more clean up done on blower parts the night before that ... before the wood stove ran me out of the shop ... was 79F inside when I left ... guess I got a little carried away with the fire ...
Went to a local discount store (Ollies) before that with The Woman, she scored a pair of house shoes and I picked up a nice Wells Lamont winter jacket for $40 to replace my old one which is now so threadbare and ripped up it's almost embarrassing to wear it anywhere ... Also grabbed a gallon of Totally Awesome! cleaner/degreaser for $5, which seemed like a good price ...
The bad news on the blower is neither of the yokes I picked up (Sam Winer and TSC) will work ... on the first, the internal bore for the shaft is off by couple of thousandths (looks like it was not completely machined out) and the keyway slot size is wrong (need 5/16" ... only 1/4" on new one ...) and it lacks the through hole for either a roll pin/shear bolt. On the second, the outside lock-up dimension between the ears was incorrect.
I'd been avoiding really diving into this, hoping to come up with a quick and easy solution ... but that really wasn't happening. So yesterday I dived in and really researched and edu-macated myself a little further on PTO shafts. The unit has an Italian style (triploid) shaft ... quite possibly a Bondioli and Pavesi, Series 4. It looks like the specific yoke that Jacobsen used (keyway + hole for shear bolt) is no longer offer by B and P ... but Jacobsen shows it as available. The only problem is that they want $374 bucks for it ... which definitely ain't happening ...
Came up with a part number for a B and P yoke with only a keyway and set screw and happen to locate a NOS one on fleabay. Interestingly the photos of that one showed a casting number (59404 S1) that was one digit different from the one that came off the blower (59403 S1) ... so it seems like the shaft may indeed be a B and P item.
Ultimately I located an AB4 Weasler yoke that is compatible with the B and P Series 4 shafts, that Rural King offers for a quite reasonable $38 and change, plus another $12 for the shipping. I opted to go with pin hole only, figuring that the load on it shouldn't be all that much, and if I take care to feather the clutch and engage it at low rpm the Grade 8, 1/4" shear bolt will probably hold up fine. If it becomes an issue, I have a resource to have a keyway machined into the new yoke. Ordered that last night, and barring any difficulties, I should have it sometime early next week at the latest.
Some hints of sun out there today, so it will be an outside day ... at least until the sun goes down.
Need to get some more crusher run spread on the driveway and fill in a couple of low spots and places where runoff has eroded it.
Plus whatever other outside tasks need doing while it's still relatively warm out.
Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...
