I refuse to let a damned virus make me hide in the house,
I will wear a mask and I will go to my polling place and vote.
I have voted in every election I was eligible to do so since I got out of the Marines in 1974,
and I will continue to do so in person.

Unfortunately, Hawaii went to all mail in voting. Guess there is 1 or 2 places you can go in person. But our local polling place was like a gathering spot, always ran into a neighbor, maybe even 1 you hadn’t hadn’t seen since prior election. Then again not every polling place is the local hongwanji.

Good evening! 55˚F this morning hitting 88˚F and sunny this afternoon. Took my Mom to her sister's child's funeral. Risky but she had to go. Face mask were worn and every other church pew was blocked off. Being a pallbearer 4' was the most I could space out and still handle the coffin.

Back at Mom's the last hay cutting of the season was just starting up. This was his first lap of cutting today.

Notice the straight "Texas" line Eric. (He did not have a church to line up with.)

I will also be going to the polls but will do early voting.
Drew, it is nice to start anew sometimes but you were rushed into it. There will be a lot of things you got rid of that you now need, but at least you are alive and of sound mind to remember. Don't start off too ambitious with the yard and garden, good that you are hiring it out for the rest of the year.
Glad the modified diet is working for you. Best to ease into it with dependency on animal product constantly decreasing.

My wife reported Gray2 just ate something that looked like a fog but all she saw was two legs about two inches apart, but he does not like frogs, so ???

Good evening. Having some very nice early fall days in Ohio.

Been a busy week this week. Made 2 separate trips to underground mines in PA this week. Likely be back to one or both next week. One is unnecessary, but the engine dealer is acting like a moron and shirking their responsibility.

Got some seat time tonight when I got home. Had to break ground to dig a grave for our old turkey. My wife hatched him in an incubator about 15 years ago. Bo never liked me, but was her best buddy. He always tried to stay between her and other people and animals. We have lots of Bo stories, he had a good life.

RIP Bo

Not sure what I will get into tomorrow, last race of the season is tomorrow locally. So I will be there. Hey Kyle....I had a very good chance of being at the AFT race next weekend in the pits. But by the time I got asked, I had about 2 hours to try to get a health screening to get approved for credentials and make arrangements to be off work. I ended up declining.

Everyone stay safe out there.

67F and clear @ 21:00, headed down to a low of 59F overnight (again)

Knees were squealing this evening so I treated myself to an Old Leg Humper after finishing up around 19:00. Dinner same as last night: couple of Hebrew National dogs, grilled under the broiler, slathered with The Woman's homemade chili, and topped with shredded cheese ...

Big orange kitty laying on pull-out shelf next to me, purring away. Squeak - The Little Pest and Beggar - has been banished to the garage for the time being. Missy has already gone to bed with The Woman. Downstairs cat still needs fed.

Refilled Water Buffalo first thing, then watered the three rhodies and all the hosta sets in the southeast planting bed. After that watered the two rhodies in the east planting bed and then the last azalea and lilac bush in the northeast planting bed.

Filled two tube feeders while waiting on WB to fill. Out of nyjer seed and feeders are almost empty, need to make a run to Tractor Supply.

Dug up and moved azalea from west planting bed to northeast planting bed and got it replanted and all watered in:

Spread some mulch around the planting, need to do some more of that tomorrow.

Also dug up small oak that was growing in the last planting hole in this bed and potted it:

Have a number of those type of "volunteers" that I may end up doing that to, now that I have the pots.

Got the soil in that last planting hole loosened up and a bunch of roots removed. Need to prep it with peat moss, soil sulphur, etc for another rhododendron tomorrow.

Did not get around to moving any pallets ... so that will be on the list for tomorrow.

Just went out to get a measurement for RNG and saw several sets of glowing eyes ... deer are apparently bedded down in the front yard ...

Hope everyone had a great day.

RNG,

The bottom 1/4" plate of the shrub bucket measures 9" wide x 29 1/2" long. It is just short of being wide enough to accept my square-nosed shovel.

The sides were cut from a piece of 1/4" plate that measured 19" x 29 1/2" which was split diagonally, yielding the two bucket sides.

The distance between the tops of the side plate at the SSQA plate is 30" ... dunno what angle that yields, but it seems to work ok ... :confused3:

IMG_1413 copy.jpg

Three pieces of 5/8 round stock were added to the bottom as stiffeners/wear bars (it will never wear out and probably would never bend, even without them ...)

IMG_4683 copy.jpg

The front cutting edge was made from a piece of 1/2" thick bar stock, probably 2" wide that I ground down on my Delta sharpening station.

IMG_3960 copy.jpg

Noticed today that the front cutting edge has a slight dent in the center of it ... was probably pushing on a rock or something.

Skip the side cutters (above picture) ... they are essentially worthless. Better to go with rear facing teeth on the upper bucket edge.

Gussets were probably whatever I had lying around in drops.

One last thing:

There is a piece of 1/4 plate stood on edge and welded on the backside (tractor side) of the SSQA plate at the bottom. Will try and grab a picture of that tomorrow.

I added it to try and take the warp from the heat of the welding out of the SSQA plate.

Ideally, I would have tacked that on before I welded the bottom and and side plates onto the SSQA plate.

Hindsight being 20/20 and all ...

Awww ... I dunno ...

I'm thinking that the idea of getting an absentee ballot and being able to vote from home, and filling it out at my leisure - as I research candidates and any issues or ballot questions from the comfort of my chair - has some appeal ...

As opposed to potentially standing in line - for some unknown amount of time - with some number of folks that might be carrying the nasties.

Seems like that could actually result in better-informed voters, assuming they put in the effort and do their due diligence ... :confused3:

FWIW, it will be the first time I have voted absentee and not in person ... ;)

I will likely drop off our completed ballots at the BoE ... rather than trust the mail at this point.

thanks RS, it's a cottage, no more no less, in a very pretty location right across the street from township/police station on a quiet country road.

Drew,

It seems nice to me ... and I'd imagine there's no shortage of things you could do, gardening/landscaping wise, assuming the owner is cool with it, if that's your bent.

Sometimes less really is more ... ;)
