Good morning!!!!

Well, almost afternoon, but I got the dampers installed! WOW, what a difference in noise level. On low, we cannot hear the fan at all unless standing underneath it. On high, it now has the noise of being on low without the dampers. We can easily hear the TV or radio without turning them up (that's a good thing because I can barely hear them anyway). Now I just need to get the grill, paint it, and install.

At first try, I thought "oh no!", the dampers would barely open..... then it hit me.... the house is closed up tight with the A/C on.... opened the back door and WALAAA! They opened up as planned. WHEW!

Ted, any thoughts as to adding a filter on the house side of dampers?

Yes, I was looking at the return air grills that you can put a 1" thick filter in. I was concerned about slowing down the CFM of the fan, especially on low. Then, thinking further, it's exhaust air going into the attic.... it's dusty up there anyway.... what's a little more if any?

If I run into trouble later with the dampers getting too dirty, I can add one later.

Agree as to the dust. I was just thinking that sometimes accumulated dust can get a bit sticky, maybe hamper the dampers. Filter easier to change.

Yup ... I installed one of those in our first house which did not have AC. Made a big difference.

Our current set up is just a gable vent fan - which does not pull air from the inside (intakes are in the overhangs/soffit)

Nonetheless, it has made a huge difference in cooling the house by keeping the attic temps a lot lower during the day. It generally kicks on around 11:00, runs all day when it's hot out or there is a lot of sun, and then shuts off about an hour or so after sunset.

Before I installed it, the AC had trouble keeping up during the hottest parts of the day and you could literally feel the IR radiation coming off the ceiling upstairs.

The fan came with a thermostat and humidistat. The lowest the t-stat would go was 60°, the humidistat would probably never kick in due to our normal super low humidity. At first, I was going to leave it in place, but decided if I removed it, just one less thing to go wrong. And with it in place, you can only choose a single speed... either low or high. I wanted the option to switch speeds.

It really is amazing how much difference an attic fan makes during hot weather.

When you awaken tomorrow you can relax and start enjoying this new adventure. Glad to hear you got relocated without major incident (was except the bloody head). On to planning next phase...

We have what looks like a 30" whole house fan. Loud as can be though. No dust filter and have not had a problem in the attic.
Ted-wish we found those fans, ours is a belt drive and one speed and is soo loud. Seems like what you have will be a lot easier to live with.

Yeah, the old fan was a combination of a helicopter sound and stones in a tin can! eventually you kind of get used to it, but it was still annoying for sure. It was a belt drive also. It has been going for 27 years, had to replace the belt one time. When the belt broke, it took out 3 of the shutter flaps, so had to replace that too. I cannot complain about the longevity.

I watched a Messick's video on the 50hp New Holland Boomer, which turns out to be a rebranded LS. Apparently is has a fairly unique FEL with better reach, but otherwise
is a high quality LS unit. Didn't even have to change the paint color much...

Temps are holding comfortably in rv, and thunderstorms no longer in forecast.

as I was going out the door at assisted living today, I was asked did you get your mail? What mail?...
seems they have mailboxes they never told me about, and I had almost two months of cards from friends and family in there.
Felt pretty dumb about that, and have spent last hour sending emails to folks saying thank you
And thank you PJ, that was nice of you to figure out my address and send a nice hello from the whole gang.

hot water heater got it's brain back, not turning that off again until I need to fill propane tank. The gauge on the tank says 1/4 full, the electronic gauge inside
says 2/3 full. ?? I'm going to assume the mechanical gauge is more accurate.
