What are your plans?

It's a casual observation but I wonder if more people are staying in? We're retired now but have never gone out so I got a Thai lunch with enough to stretch into tonight and we will try real hard to make it to midnight.

Its' too darn cold to go do much around here. Scottsbluff was -40 last night. I'll be stuffing wood in the fireplace and in bed by 9-10. Gotta get ready for a big day of football.

Staying in, as usual. I don't think we made it to midnight last year.

I'm ready to make the traditional pork roast, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and peas for good luck in the New Year tomorrow. :)

I might stay up past my usual 9:15. Maybe even try to see 9:30. I am programed to get up early, and nothing on TV interesting enough to keep me awake. :)

Collards and black eyed peas are for luck. And some Hoppin' John.

And we're staying in, as usual. I enjoy the peace and quiet.

Got a room booked, going to do the Rose Bowl Parade and Football game afterwards. All told this will be the COLDEST Rose bowl ever recorded.
Hey Al Gore we can sure use some of the GULLIBE WARMING you promised us.

Staying in- we have a tradition of eating steak, lobster, some deer sausage and cheese, and having a few drinks. Too much to do to spend tomorrow hung over!

I've never heard of Hoppin' John. Had to look that up: The Historic Problem With Hoppin' John | Serious Eats

You can read about lucky Pork & Sauerkraut and Hoppin' John here: The Food Timeline--American New Year food traditions

One of our German friend's birthday is Dec 31. His wife always made saltz rippchen (pork chops salt-cured like ham), mashed potatoes, a cream based horseradish sauce for the pork, and sauerkraut.

We went to a movie this afternoon and came home with Chinese Food takeout. Settled in by the fire now to stay.

Oh yeah, the movie we saw was "Unbroken", about Louie Zamperelli who survived being a Japanese POW in WWII. Based on a true story.
