That's a good video and I don't blame them for trying to make the best of it. All frames have crush points where the frame will fold on impact so that is not unique to Ford. The primary and secondary points of impact are very important in relation to how the damage occurs and the risk to the passengers.

Ive seen plenty of vehicles hit in the rear (or in a multiple vehicle crash) where the doors would not open even with less over all damage that that one. But manufacturers are doing a great job with unibody vehicles by improving the crush zones front and back and protecting passenger compartments.

That driver's door was most impressive to me. Even minor fender benders have been know to tweak the cab enough to pinch the doors. When he opened that door, and closed it again, it still sounded like a new truck. Even the gaps around the door are still even.

Annoys me when things like in this case, the 40,000 pounds are mentioned. Repeatedly. It could have been 4000 pounds applied differently, with a tragic outcome.

Modern vehicles crumple like that because they are suppose to. They crush to dissipate energy & save the passengers. Not stay intact & put that energy into the passengers. Crumple zones are just crash shock absorbers.

But the new car that crumples may barely injure a foot. But to old "tank" kills its driver in a several different ways.

Agree, those cars were cool. But that video is sure an eye opener.
