I have a Smith and Wesson mod 66 .357 that I carried when I first started on the job, yes it and I are both relics, but still enjoy taking it from the safe every now and then to put some rounds through.

Now you’re talking! My first duty weapon was a 4” Model 19. Carried a 3 1/2” Model 66 off duty and when in plain clothes and sometimes a Model 39. Loved those guns. Never liked the Model 29 I was issued by the department. Glad it was optional carry.

Thanks for all the feedback on the Springfield Range Officer. I bought a Springfield M1A a few weeks ago and it's really well made.

When shooting with a can, velocity is a HUGE deal / variable.

You've missed the point. Nowhere was a suppressor mentioned. Supersonic is not in and of itself a factor in neutralization effectiveness. Velocity is. Bringing in super vs subsonic and suppressors is not at all germane to the conversation.

I didn't miss the point. Bigger bullet, faster bullet, good. Smaller bullet going slow, bad. I get it.

The dude you went after however mentioned a can, and even though a can wasn't in the original topic of discussion, the dude only mentioned that velocity can play a HUGE role IF you had a can. He was right.

You're both right. Happy?

I was shooting a .300 blackout suppressed in a AR style rifle, shooting subsonic, when it dawned on me I'm basically shooting a pointy .45 ACP in a 10" or so barrel. Just gives you another perspective.

EDIT - technically speaking, velocity and bullet weight would have a direct correlation to recoil of the sidearm, with the weight of the sidearm also another variable in the equation IMO. Recoil for each shooter varies per "follow up shots", so perhaps one could argure that velocity does play a variable even if you take cans out of the picture?
