I just bought my L3710 and have a question about the glide shifting. When pulling the bushhog or just riding down the road it shifts just fine. Yesterday I decided to do some discing with my little five foot disc set and noticed that the tractor did not shift as smoothly when pulling the disc. Could pulling the disc make a difference in the way it shifts? It seems as though the tractor hesitated a second or so before shifitng. Just curious if this is normal or not.

If it helps any, being paranoid about damaging equipment, I usually back off the throttle as I shift, even though the owners manual doesn't say you have to do that. Thanks!

GST does have hesitation while shifiting. It is essentially taking the same steps you take when shifiting just doing all of it via a single lever. A clutch pack is still disengaged, gears shifted, clutch rengaged. Some folks have expressed concern over this while going up a hill which can introduce rollback. I answer back and say, that's why you still have brakes. I suspect if the load is greater, GST may take longer to get the gears moved around. The 3710 is a great tractor.

I have only had mine and a week and I LOVE it!! Seems to be built better than a rock!! And that short turning radius is a dream come true. After 20 plus hours I may have touched the brakes to make a turn 3 times!! Imagine the savings on wear and tear. Just another selling point to the wife on why I needed a new tractor. By the way is it REALLY okay to use the glide shift without backing off the throttle? I really feel uncomfortable not doing that.

Yes, you can shift the GST transmission without backing off on the throttle. One of the reasons the new GST's are 12X8 is the addition of 4 gears in forward to shorten that shifting interval between gears. Lewis

Mine hesitates too. Actually seems worse going downhill than uphill, since the gravity gives you a boost going down. As a test, next time you're going down the drive without any implements on, downshift and see if you can feel yourself sway foward when the gears mesh. (The tractor may slow suddenly, but your body won't.) Watch for a delay between shift and sway and I think you'll find one.

I've never throttled down to shift, either.

One thing to note. The shift rate can be adjusted so that
it shifts more quickly. I don't like the delay (& yes it's worse
when disking) so I called & was told they could walk me through the process but I just decided to wait & have it adjusted when I do my 50 hour service. Also, I never lower the rpm's before shifting ...to me that's why we paid extra for the glide shift. Also, you don't need to clutch when going from forward to reverse which is hard to do...but is helpful whne doing some loader work ect.....fyi
