I finally had a chance to go up in the woods to start bringing down some logs that were cut last summer.

I really enjoy using the winch, and am amazed at its strength. I didn't get some pics, but I had to pull the logs off the pile, and then drive 75' down a steep hill, and winch the logs to me before I hooked them up to the way you see them in the pics. I did take some videos, but I attacthed the camera to the winch and they are all blury and shaking. Next time I will use a tripod.

Got a new splitter last week and used it on some birch rounds I had hanging around. This splitter is a joy to use, and actually makes splitting fun.

Using good equipment is fun, almost wish I could be there to help.

 There is nothing nicer than working in the woods on a good day.

What kind of splitter is that you have there?? It looks a little different from the typical ones I see.

Gordan,
The splitter is a Super Split. It is a kinetic energy type splitter. Has a cycle time of 2 seconds. It is fast and easy to use. I really like the working height so I don't have to bend over. It will blow through most woods, even some knotty pieces. I would say 99% of the trees I split are straight grain. If you have a lot of notty type wood, they a hydro unit might be better. You can easily split a cord of wood under an hour without killing yourself.

I bought a knock off ( the DR Rapid Fire ) but it had too many issues so I returned it and started saving for the Orignal. The other nice thing is that since the engine is only maintaining the flywheel speed, it really sips the gas.

You can check them out more at: Log Splitter, Wood Splitter - Super Split(R)

If you want to see it in person, I will be bringing it up to camp in June sometime to do some splitting. I'll give you a heads up.

OK - Thanks

My wife and I are going up to the Nulhegan Basin area today (in about 15 minutes) to look for some birds and take a walk before the leaves and black flies are out. If the roads are open and dry, which will surprise me, we will go up to Lewis for a picnic lunch.
