getting my B7800 monday

hi, i am getting a B7800 with FEL. this is my first tractor and i am wonder what to expect maintenance wise.
also, can anyone give me some useful links i can use? are there any other good kubota forums? what websites should a search to learn more about my tractor and attachments?

First welcome to TBN and congrats on your B-7800.
All the information you ever need to know about your 7800 can be found here from the vast sources of knowledge.
As far as attachments go, I would stay in the 60" range for most things such as bush hog, tiller, box blade. Depending on your usage you could step up to 72" for a landscape rake and rear blade. One attachment that I love that got for my 7800 is a set of the Paynes forks. I have used them many many times with jobs.
Another choice on your attachments is the quality. I try to figure out how often I will be using an attachment and base the quality that I need on that. For example, I used my tiller alot so I went with Woods which I consider to be a good brand with good quality. On my post hole digger, I just went with what they sold at tractor supply instead of spending 3 times as much on a Danuser because I figured I wouldn't use it as much. Same is true with my rotary cutter, I just went with a cheap one as I don't use it that much. In a perfect world, I would have all Kubota attachments /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif however I don't want to spend that kind of money.

Welcome and congrats. About two years ago I was in exactly the same position as you; I had just purchased a new B7800 and really didn't know "j**k s**t" about tractors /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. I am sure you are going to be glad you bought it.

I have received more help from people here than I can begin to acknowledge. Folks are generally knowledgeable, friendly, polite (with occasional lapses /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) and happy to try to help.

Here are my suggestions, FWIW:

1. If you are mechanically inclined, there is no reason not to do routine maintenance yourself, but keep a log documenting what you do, and when, in case a warranty issue arises later on.

2. Consider ordering the shop manuals for the tractor and any Kubota attachnments (FEL, Backhoe) that you buy. They are much more detailed than the owners' manual and not that expensive. Can be bought at www.tractorsmart.com.

3. I agree about pallet forks. $ for $ the two most cost-effective (and frequently used) attachments that I have are my toothbar and Payne's pallet forks. With the latter, you can unload the pallets on which any other attachments you buy (and there will be more /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) will probably come.

4. Follow the owners' manual break-in procedures and maintenance schedule. Also, learn and recognize your tractor's limitations (they're in the owners' manual) and don't try to use a 30hp tractor as if it was twice as powerful. You're going to be amazed at what it CAN do, but it does have some limits.

5. You have a quality machine with a great reputation. If you ever want to sell, or trade up to a larger machine, you will never lose money on a quality machine, so long as it has not been abused and has been well maintained. By way of example, I recently sold my Honda walk-behind snowblower (when I bought a 3ph machine). I had maintained a spreadsheet log of its hours and service which I made available to potential buyers. After owning and using it for 3 years, I sold it for $100 more than I had paid for it (prices had gone up in the meantime).

Congrats on the new tractor and welcome to TBN. There is a ton of knowledge on this site and you are welcomed to ask any questions you have.

If you are wondering about any attachments you might post what your needs are and what you plan to do. Once everybody knows that they can give you accurate info. As far as maintenance goes.. most of it will be fairly straight forward. If you are mechanically inclined you could handle it and save quite a bit of $. Your first maintenance interval should be at 50 hours.... so if you aren't using it too much, you'll have a little time to think about what you want to do.

My poor B7800 has done all I have asked of it and more, it is now relegated to pasture maintenance and the occasional bucket of horse/cow crap. Not the life I am sure it was designed for.

Your B will serve you well, a tough 30hp machine with a great history behind it.

thanks for all the advice so far.
as far as uses- i own 4 acres that use to be a field. looks like long term i will mostly use a finishing mower (what brands should i look at?) also i would like i tiller to use to get some yard going, and a rear blade to use sparingly.
i have build a house here a year ago and still have so much to do. got to get rid of old trees, plant new trees, level ground, ect.
i cant wait to get started!

For cutting lawn I like a MMM. Easier for everyone to use. Including myself. But that will mean added expense over a Rear Finish Mower. Look at Land Pride or Woods.
I have a <font color="orange"> Kubota </font> Tiller. But others have bought from dealers that advertise here on TBN with good results and savings.
I have a B2910 that the B7800 was derived from. You will love it on your 4 acres. That's same size as my place.

My wife is an after market safety add on.

Whines and moans when I start it up about being careful.
Whines and slaps me about projects that don't get done in time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif What that has to do with safety is anyone's guess. I didn't do my homework on that one. I think the sales guy put one over on me?

I had *every* intention of getting a mid-mount mower for my B.

Then a few things happened.....

I went into the woods a lot more - ground clearence issues...

It snowed like crazy one year, again ground height issues...

I borrowed a buddies RFM. Now that thing rocked my world.
Easy on and off, and a great finish to boot!

So the mid-PTO has never seen action on my B.

I usually leave the FEL on, and nothing in the back.... your milage may vary.

That safety feature on mine has continued to evolve and is now taking over the tractor as long as I hook and unhook the implements /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
Still a feature worth having.

Yes, you can disable it, but you have to change some of the wiring around after you raise the seat!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, in my experience with this type of safety device, it actually screams loudest if the seat is left up. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Makes it very difficult to disable. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

my dealer forgot to give me a manual for the tractor. i am getting one off tractorsmart though. will i need to get one from the dealer still, or will the tractorsmart one be all that the factory one is and more?
