I was wondering if there is anyone out there who knows how to get more Horsepower out of a NH TC24DA tractor? I know buying a new tractor would do it but that is not an option. I am told it's all about the fuel delivery. Can i replace the injectors with a bigger size? Where would i find out which one to buy? Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

The newer TC26 uses a modified TC24 engine. You may want to talk to your service manager at the local NH store and see what parts are different between the 2 engines. It may be a fairly simple conversion. If it is a matter of running at higher RPMs then that might complicate things because you might have to alter other parts (like some gears) to make sure you run the PTO at 540 and also at the peak of the torque curve of the new, higher HP.

Why do you need more hp?

I was wondering the same thing, seems like the hydro check valve kicks before you really ever begin to bog the tractor - that is what I would like to see would be a way to get more power to the ground. OH NO did I just start a HST vs. gear war?

greg,

I have had my injection pump adjusted so the engine is getting more fuel. Before the adjustment, the tractor ran smooth but had absolutely no power. Of course, with more fuel, more smoke. Under load, it will exhaust a slight/moderate amount of greyish/black smoke. Several "diesel people" I have talked to said that the EPA emissions regs. are not allowing these engines to run the way they really could be.

One other thing I have done is the change the exhaust routing. Although the direction of the exhaust did not change performance, the fact that when modifiying the the exhaust pipe, we found that the original pipe was bent so sharp that it was nearly kinked. I don't know how it even ran with the exhaust nearly plugged.

jwstewar,

I think you should have the relief valve settings checked. I can easily stall the engine from full-throttle while in low-range. The engine will stall out before the tractor ever thinks of breaking traction.

You guys are making me feel inadequate with my measley 18HP. I usually have enough HP in low range, but in high, it much prefers downhill with a tailwind vs uphill.

Edit here-

Megame - any details on your mod? I think my 18 is the same motor as the 21

There is never enough power! I have a TN70 and want more power. If I had a TN95, I would still want more power.
