Getting more HP from TC24DA

I was wondering the same thing, seems like the hydro check valve kicks before you really ever begin to bog the tractor - that is what I would like to see would be a way to get more power to the ground.

Same here Jim. Remember when we went round and round in http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...450-how-much-slip-your-tc.html?highlight=slip when I first asked about the relief valve? My TC-24D wheels will just stop under good traction conditions if I push into too much material. No spin, not much load on the motor with the pedal pushed about 1/3 of the way down. Push it further and it will bog down, but effectively you are just pushing it into a higher gear. It doesn't break traction or push further into the pile as if it were getting more power.

I had the relief valve checked, it was at the max recommended setting. I am one of the few here that continually claims I run out of power before I run out of traction. Keep in mind, that's not motor power but power to the ground, which as you are getting at, is what really matters. Ideally, I would like to see a third range on mine like the bigger TCs with one real low, then medium and high.

The only real drain on power for me is a scaper bank full of snow and ice in the 52" snow blower.

I'm not sure i really NEED more power, I just figured that if there was more HP out there with the same block assembly, why not.

Brad,

I forgot about that thread, but that is exactly what I'm talking about. I've gotten better at using it and know when is too much and how to correct it, but when pulling the box blade and it gets full is probably when I notice it the most. I'm pulling a 5' KK (I know too big) but for the most part it does OK, unless I drop the rippers completely down or the box starts over flowing.:D But still seems like the tires should spin or the motor should at least bog - though I have been able to bog it by pushing harder.

I haven't tried pulling down in to the ditch and backing out with a full bucket - I had someone come in with a backhoe and clean it out (couldn't beat the price only charge $100 for diesel  :D )

i didnt relise you guys with oversized riding lawnmowers dont have a "low range" ;)

on my 33 i can spin all 3 tires. on high traction stuff (say some nice compact dirt thats moist) i can stall out and bog the motor before i spin anything. (in low) but usually at that point you can start to see the FEL arms crying uncle so i figure its a good thing i dont have more power :D

There is never enough power! I have a TN70 and want more power. If I had a TN95, I would still want more power.

More HPis good. That's why I've had 6plus different tractors and never once went backwards in hp (unless you count my antique Economy with 16 hp Briggs)

What??????

greg,

It's funny you started this post because I've been thinking of modifications myself. I've read several other posts here about guys asking about tweaking and mods, only for someone to say......well if you want more power, get a bigger tractor! Well, I don't want a bigger tractor! If guys are modding their diesel pickups for more HP then why don't they go get a dump-truck!?

Here's what I've been thinking about, I'm sure someone will tear the idea apart but who cares;

Since the TC24DA uses a combination manifold/assembly as pictured in #1, I would get a manifold for a TZ24DA pictured in #2 which would allow for an easier way to mount the turbo. I found a website with numerous compact sized turbos, one of which is pictured in #3.

Of course many other things would need to be worked out such as all of the numerical calculations, oil supply for the turbo and many other small fabrication items (air cleaner, exhaust, heat shielding, etc.) According to my records, this engine has a compression ratio of 22:1, so it may just blow apart!

I also found this website, Ray Hall Turbocharging - Custom diesel turbocharger installations

I was hoping to increase HP by changing injectors or something simple like that. But, a turbo sounds like a great add on. Thanks for the web site.

Some day I hope to be able to say the same thing!

How much more "Umpf" are you looking for and for what do you need it soooo bad? a lil more HP can be easily done by giving more fuel, but you get a little cloud as a reward. Turbos don't really offer that much HP either. Look between a TC48 and a 55DA. Whopping 7HP more! Haha... now think what that does on a lil 18HP engine. I am just abouth thinking: If you would sell the old tractor and put the money for a turbo and all your other engine mods (adjusting timing, more fuel, maybe bigger injectors) on top of the sold tractor, you should be able to get a bigger tractor with factory more HP easy. Why bather with all the hassle, if you could do it much easier? More power = also more stress on that lil tractor, which it may or may not be designed for it.

Food for thought.

Monk,

These are all good points worth considering. I guess from my standpoint it is more of hobby than anything. Plus it would be something unique! Perhaps rather than stating we are looking for more HP, I guess we should be looking for torque...?

My thoughts on added torque/HP and over stressing the machine and finding another "weak link" are surely a possibility. However, since it is a hydro, I would think that the main safety relief would absorb any substantial "shock."
And still one must consider the PTO while running any implements, which is why I have properly adjusted slip clutches on all of my PTO driven stuff.

Noting that you can't get "blood from a turnip", if one has the money and time, it sure would be fun to try!

Any BTW, it really would be nice to have a 33, 48, or more but then I'd have to go and get a new FEL, backhoe and other assorted "stuff." Plus a bigger truck and trailer to haul it around with.......and I guess that would not be bad either!
