NH TC 40 A, AC 5020
I purchased a new TC 40 A on Monday from a dealer in Waco, TX. It has 4WD, a 16la, R4's, and that's about it. I called about a price in a trader type paper and by golly, they sold me a tractor for that price. Not only did I get a fabulous price, but the dealer has 30 mobile mechanics to send out if warrenty work is needed. That is what really set the deal.

It has a lot more controls than I'm used to with the shuttle, 4WD, range and loader controls, but I'll adjust. I used the loader a little this weekend, but I had a bulldozer out and was doing other work. I think I have 5 hours on it so far. My main purpose for it was to mow, and the grass isn't growing much yet.

I have a coupla questions. I did hear a clunk twice in the left front axle while I was using the loader. Should I be concerned about this? It also seemed to stay to the high side of the middle of the normal range on the engine temp guage. Is that normal too? Anything I should watch for with this machine??

I sure like those lights. They light up the night. I may do some mowing at night so it is a little cooler. I really don't need to feed the skin cancer anyway. I'd like a canopy, but I'm afraid I'd rip it off at some point. Lots of trees on my place.

Thanks to those of you who steered me towards NH. I had never given them a look. I look forward to putting some time on the tractor. MP

Congratulations Mark! I'm sure you will really love your TC40A. It should handle your mowing tasks with ease and do a lot more things that will make you wonder how you ever got along without it. 102 acres is a lot, so I'm sure you will keep it busy.

When you were using the loader, are you sure the "clunk" sound was from the front axle? I hear that from time-to-time on my loader, but it's the mounting upright. The loader just shifts a tiny amount when I change directions or load on the bucket and causes a clunk that sounds like it is coming from the front. Listen a little closer to the source or remove the loader and see if the sound goes away. I'd bet that's your sound.

Mark the 1st thing I would do is crawl under that bad boy and make absolutely sure that all bolts, nuts and fasteners are tight and accounted for. We had some noises when our rig was brand new that turned out to be loose or missing bolts. Once everything was torqued down all the noise went away.

Congratulations on your New Holland, you're gonna love that machine for everything that you throw at it in the way of projects.

Mark that is a great tractor. I purchased a TC40A in 2003. It is a great tractor. Mine has been a little unused this winter. Not as much snow as normal. But spring is hear and ground is drying out nicely. Should be able to start working. Good luck with your tractor. With 102 acres you should be able to get lots of seat time.

Thanks Guys!

Only about 40-45 acres are pasture with the rest being creek bottom/woods. I've been barely managing for 14 years with one little 25HP mower. With the 2 of them, I should handle my chores much better.

Jim, My first loader. It could be the loader. I'll watch and see where it comes from.

Mike, I'll check out all fittings. I'd like to think they're all tight from the factory, but your likely right.

Mike Miller, Some pretty country you live in. I still make it back to Central and S Central PA to fish the limestoners, once and a while.

The TC 35/40/45 seem to be physically bigger than other tractors in their class. Is it my imagination, or are they?

Thanks again! MP

Mark,
Congrats on the new rig. I am also a new owner, having bought the TC35A a couple of months ago. I have been very pleased and I know you will too. I also heard the "clunk" from the front end and as Jim said, it was the loader. You are right on about these Boomer tractors being larger than most in its HP class. I was set to buy a Farmtrac or Montana 36 HP tractor, but I just wasn't comfortable on them. I had my 13-year old son sit on the Farmtrac to operate it and the tractor looked too little for him! After trying the NH, I never looked back. I originally decided on the 40 hp, but settled on the 35 to save $800.00. At the time I felt the money would be better spent on more implements vs more HP. Good luck & send pictures!

Shovelhead,

My wife was the one that pointed the size thing out to me. She mentioned one day that the tractors I was looking at ( mostly Kubota) were no bigger than the one I had. I guess size does matter to some. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif The tc 40 is much larger than my AC5020. I wanted to stay with a compact for trailering ease, but needed something bigger. I looked at a farmtrac 38hp, but it was the size of my old tractor also.

I really wouldn't have minded having ag tires on the TC, but the R4's will probably stand up to the mequite better.

Hi kossetx:

Just wanted to say a quick congrats on the nice machine, and welcome aboard!

I purchased my first tractor with the help of TBN a couple of months ago, a TC35A & I can't wait to get going on the yard projects...

Also backing, Mike and Jims points; Jim told me to check the bolts when I brought my machine home & I found two nuts from the loader frame had fallen off and the other two were loose! (this was where the four bolts secure the loader frame to the rear axle).

And I've heard the a noise in the general area you mentioned, and believe it to be the loader uprights moving slightly - I've heard it when the loader was under stress (i.e. trying to dig into frozen ground). Wondering your circumstances.

Best wishes on your upcoming projects, and be sure to tell us about them & show pictures!
Bruce.

With all this talk about loose nuts and bolts I have to wonder what your dealers did to prep the machine for delivery. I would hope all those things would be checked before they deliver it to a customer.
