I have a friend who will sell me an almost new Gearmore 2G2 72" hydraulic box scraper for cheap. Will my L3400 pull it okay? Is it that much better than a Landpride HD 60" scraper?

The 2G2 weighs 860 pounds and at the distance from the rear axle that it hangs it would be nice to have something on the front (FEL or weights).

It should work fine. Gearmore makes heavy duty stuff in some of their lines and the 2G apparently is designed for a CUT at the top end.

The 7 scarifiers run deeply will put a load on the L3400 depending on the soil. It may be at the limit.

The hydraulics are nice if you have a way to operate it (one rear remote). The BB is much more useful with a tractor with three rear remotes and a Top & Tilt. The hydraulics add considerably to the price and desirability.

If you can get the 2G2 for cheap then it can be used and probably sold for a profit later with a coat of paint. They don't go down in value very much and black paint is cheap.

In general, Landpride makes good equipment as well. 60" may be a little narrow depending on your application.

I have a FEL and I have the Landpride 60" now. I just wondered if this 2G2 is good enough to get anyway, say at a thousand bucks.

Here is the description from Gearmore for the 2G2:

The 2G2 Series Scrapers are ideal for
general landscape work such as: terracing,
back-filling, scarifying and leveling
the soil. Available in widths of 60", 66",
72", 76", & 84" for tractors from 30 to
60 HP, 2 or 4 wheel drive. Available in
manual or hydraulic shanks. Now with
bushings on 3-point hitch.

New ones in 72" w/hydraulics were $4000 in 2004.

Used is anybody's guess depending on condition of the hydraulics, scarifiers and blade(s).

Less than 5 or 6 hours use on it. And I think he's throwing in the hydraulic cylinders from his L39. Would I be able to use those?

I'm thinking I'd like to try the rear hydraulic addition like TEG wrote up back in November.

Why is your friend selling it? If you have the money, buy it, try it, if you don't like it then sell it. It is a heck of a deal for $1k.

i have a 2G2-72 on my L3430GST with R4 tires and wheel weights and a full load in the box and no rippers, I loose traction. That will definatly be a load on your tractor, just dont fill the box full and rippers down, will be an issue for sure.
