Gentlemen, I just bought a mitsubishi MT 372 compact tractor from a friend. He didn't have it long and didn't know much about it. It grinds when you change gears. It seems the clutch is not fully releasing. I drained the gear oil out of the transmission and replaced it with universal tractor fluid. It is still hard to get in gear. Jamming it into gear cant be good for the machine. He said the clutch is good and has about a 1/4" left on the plate. I tried adjusting the linkage on the clutch pedal but it made no difference. How can I fix this problem????? Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanx, Larry

Rear crankshaft oil seal leaking and gumming up the clutch ?

It's not a Mustang.
There should be no shifting gears. You pick a gear and go. These are not syncronized transmissions. My MT 372D grinds too. I just pull it into the gear I want, slowly.

Yep, non syncro!

I never shift 'on the fly', always select gear while standing still.
You will find that even in high you can clutch and drive off.

My Mitsu does a mere 8MPH in high as per my GPS speedometer. LOL!

Those Mitsu's are geared for working, not cruising or going to church on sunday.

I'm sorry some people diddn't understand my explanation of my clutch problem. To get a little further in depth, the clutch works for the most part, but creeps forward when fully depressed in gear. It seems as if it only needs a little more adjustment, but the location of the safety switch prevents the pedal from further travel. Am I adjusting at the right place? It seems to me there should be another place to adjust. My friend that I bought it from split it last month to have a crack in the block by the starter welded. He said there was no obvious problems. He had it about 3 months before he sold it to me. This tractor was always garage kept. I knew the guy that owned it before my friend.-- I never tried to shift on the fly. It grinds going into any gear from neutral, dead stop, clutch and break fully depressed. With the loader, you have to shift from forward to reverse after you pick up a bucket of stone from the pile. Sorry for the confusion. Larry

Yup it's not fully disengaging, the PO may not have reassembled the clutch back together properly, he could have put the disk on backwards. You may need to split it and see whats happening there.
