Backhoe GC2410 BH Project.

One of my projects is to move the pool pump to a better location on a concrete slab with a drain. I decided to buy 100' of 4" flex pipe from NDS Pro. Since I live in an area with a frost zone I am almost done digging a trench 100' long and 4-5' deep. I am in it about 5 hours now with just 15 more feet to go (will post pics soon I hope). The BH does very well, I have to grease it again before I can finish the trench this afternoon though. I may be able to lay the pipe in tonight (I hope.

A drain doesn't normally have to be below the frost line? Whats up with that?

I have lots of them here that aren't, and they all work fine.

lol! if you have a backhoe and are itching to do some digging, then of course, the drain has to be below the frost line.

Its one of those questions I asked many people, half say 4' and half say no. Later on I am going to expand it to drain the new patio deck between my pool and the back of the garage. The snow and ice come crashing off the garage roof so I dont want the risk the line freezing. I noticed that the winters are getting weird with snow and ice melting, then freezing and melting again throught the season. Im hoping that with the line 4 feet under which is the frost zone here in Maine-it wont freeze and block causing a flood in the shed and the garage.

The water is supposed to drain off, not sit in the pipe and freeze.

No one in my town would have any drains, if we all had to have them below the frost line.

The drainage ditches at the street only average 12" - 18" deep.

I have 10 downspout drains, 2 floor drains, 2 sump pumps, 3 yard drains, lots of drain tile, and my septic line all in no more than 12" of earth, and they all work fine.

Thats true-I forgot about the septic line and how it never freezes.
