One member years ago, had a failure of the front gears on a GC2300. MF replaced the gears. They must have known there were defective ones out here, because they didn't argue.

Use the 4WD if you find you need it. But, don't use it, if you don't have to.

Some people just leave it in 4WD all the time. I wouldn't recommend that, especially with a lot of weight in the front bucket. Or, on paved roads. The front tires need to be able to slip, If they can't, damage can occur.

Leaving it in 4Wd all the time, also wears the front tires out faster.

I find that I need 4wd almost all the time on my 2022 GC 1723EB. It's not like these small machines have a lot of traction ...

Depends on what you are doing with it, and how you use it.

I find that I almost never need my 4WD. And, I plow snow on gravel, with turf tires.

Sometimes, I went half the winter, before I realized I hadn't engaged the 4WD.

Yeah, if you like to play in the mud, or go running around the woods, that's what 4WD is for. I don't do that.
