gc2310 broken hydraulic filter

I have a GC2310TLB with about 70 hours on it and all is great...until now.
Yesterday I ran over a stump and snapped off the hydraulic filter. Not just the filter but the stem that connects it. I have the service manual for the tractor and it appears that I have to change the entire cover.
Has anyone had any experience with this? What will it cost to have it replace? Is this something that a mechanically inclined individual like me should tackle or better left to a pro?
Do they make a skid plate for this? Does anyone want to make me one? $$

I have a photo of the phantom skid plate we have all been waiting for.
I have been on them to make this avaliable for over a year. We should be able to get them soon. There is a problem getting a template for drilling 2 holes to match up properly and I am told this is almost a done deal.
