Gator parts

I am looking for a good salvaged steering gear for a 4X2 John Deere Gator. Anyone have ideas on who to contact? Seems a shame that one must purchase the complete steering gear when the steering shaft breaks off at the steering gear body, but I can'f figure a way to repair the break or replace the shaft. If anyone has experience with this, please let me know.

Could you post a pic of the part and the break? Is it a part that can be removed from the gear body, and you can get a picture of the two pieces?

Also, as a 4x2 Gator owner, how did it break?

The steering gear is the long metal object that runs across the front of the vehicle, underneath the hood. The tie rod ends are attached to the ends. The gear body itself does not come apart. The part that broke was the steering shaft. It broke off where it attaches to the gear body.

The shaft broke when the Gator tipped over. Too much pressure on the steering wheel and something had to give.

I attempted to attach photo, but the file was 250KB and we are limited to 100KB files. Sorry.

I've looked but never found anywhere in the country for used parts on a Gator. Seems like it would be a great business to get into. And yes it is a crying shame to have to buy the whole unit when all you need is the shaft.
