Gas cap for TO 35

I bought a TO35 filled the tank up and went to work. I notice a gas smell opened the hood and the gas was spilling out from around the cap. I ordered a new one fro "Yesterdays Tractor". I now have a nice new shinney chrome gas cap that fits tight, no gas spill. It will run until the presure in the tank will not let anymore gas out and then it stops. When I took the cap off a big gush of air went inthe tank and the filter bowel filled up with gas and it started right up. My question is, what am I doing or did wrong? Can you crack the cap a little? This is the one we have on our TO-30. Maybe you can drill a hole in the top?

You need a vented gas cap
Go to a NAPA or other parts store. Even a Tractor Supply
