Have on old 6' Diameter Galvanized water cistern that has not been used
in years.Still in pretty good condition.Want to make a storage shed to be used on a remote part of the property. I can handle cutting the opening for the door. What would be the best way to frame the opening to install a prehung steel exterior door? Best way to work with curvature?

If you can get inside, build the frame from inside, starting with the uprights for the door facing and just use self tapping screws from the outside with a helper holding the 2x4 inside the scribed mark. This mark would correspond to the dimensions of your steel door framing Fasten the frame to the walls prior to cutting so it is stiff and wont warp or buckle. You will need to cut a contoured piece for the top for it to be sealed tightly, use a good floor sweep for the bottom on the door. Once you get your frame attached on the inside, cut the sheet metal with a 1/16" grinder blade or sabre saw with metal blade. You could even use this cut out to attach to your own shop built metal frame and not buy a door unless you already have a spare. Then just mount the door as you would in a wood frame house.

The other way is to make an extension out to a door, Like an igloo! that way if the wall springs out when it is cut then it won't bind the door fram and pinch the door.

There is no way to get inside without cutting the opening first. I think that would work though. Was not really sure how to frame it.

Thanks

+1. This is how I have seen them done.
