fx 235 rear end help

i need to know if i unbolt the left and right axle housings off my fx 235 are they just splined to slip in and out or do i need to unbolt the top section where the lift is and do something inside first? and what side left or right when sitting on tractor, is gonna give me access to the ring gear.
