Our TSC stores in Canada do not carry the Kubota colours however I found "Kubota Orange" farm implement paint at CarQuest so I'll try that.

Is there a good third party match for the Kubota grey? I've read a lot of threads regarding orange paint but can't find recommendations on getting a grey paint that matches.

I used some TSC Kubota new paint to touch up the scratches on my 2005 B21. The color is brighter than the sun faded original paint. I believe new is the right color.

I have thought about repainting all of it. But it is muddy most of the time and I know I would destroy the paint next time I take it in the woods or build a road.

My dad painted one of our cars with very short nap roller and brush and it came out surprisingly good. You had to get up pretty close to tell. It ended up looking like what I think is called a hammered finish.

My painting got sidetracked as I got involved doing some minor repairs.
Here's a start.
I know. I know. The bucket is just going to get all scratched up first time I use it. But you have to understand that this is my first tractor & I want her to look good when she arrives at the retirement home next spring.

Sorry Pointy, I didn't see your earlier query to my post. The local surplus metal supplier around here also sells mats that are ergonomic (anti-fatigue) for a couple of bucks each. I took the old ratty Kubota mat and overlaid it on top of the new one and drew the cutouts and edges on with a Sharpie. Then I used some heavy duty scissors to cut it. It was easy to do, looks better than the original mat and has some cush to it. I can take a pic if you want.

The grey paint I bought from the dealer was less expensive than the orange, about $24 per quart. It goes a long way. I painted the bucket with it among other parts and since then I've done quite a bit of work with the FEL and the paint is not scratching. I'm impressed. I think it's worth the price. Oops, sorry, just noticed you said that you can't get factory paint where you are.

... It's called a ten foot paint job. ...

Until now I've spent most of my time on minor maintenance items before I start painting. I just did the bucket & wheels with a brush & it looks acceptable. I'm calling it a 20 foot paint job. I'm more interested in making sure everything is OK mechanically than having a perfect paint job (or even a 10 ft. paint job).

I'd like to try some spray painting but I can't do it inside & its too cold outside, besides, it would take more disassembly than I want to tackle. So I've decided to concentrate on the mechanical side & touch up any bare metal with primer & finish paint. Maybe I'll end up with a 30 foot paint job.

I don't have a supplier or the Kubota Gray direct replacement but I just built a cab for my 2010 L 3400 HST and bought duplicolor dark gray tire and rim spray paint from Canadian Tire and it is a very close match. The cab frame is attached to the ROPS and it's tough to see a difference.

Pointy,

Recently, I took a sample (seat belt bracket) off my recently acquired (last April) B7500 to my local Lowes and we did a computer match for the Valspar 'Anti-Rust Armor' Industrial Maintenance Enamel (oil-base) and got this:

Kubota Gray:
(for 1 gallon...)
Base: 21829 Gloss Clear Base
Tints: 101-8Y39, 107-24.5, 109-6, 113-2Y27
(the '101', '107', etc are the tint colors & the other codes are the quantities)

Note that there was also a "B 4-49437' code number on the tint label that appears to reference the Base - the '21829' number is on the front (label) of the can. Maybe your local Lowes paint mixer can figure it out.

In preliminary tests, this is so close as one could hardly distinguish any difference with the original (tested in obscure areas - i.e. areas of no sun fading).

I'd use this as a 'point of departure' and for comparison - but you may want to do what I did and just take a part off your tractor and have them scan it. Seems I recall the rep saying they just got a new 'mixer' - so it's easily conceivable that your formula could vary ever so slightly.

FYI -- hope this helps,

In some old paint threads I kept reading about the "new" vs "old" Kubota paint colour at TSC. How do you know which to buy? Is it by the year the tractor was manufactured? (Mine is a 2004)

You want the "new" orange, which is a deeper, richer shade of orange than the "old" color. Kubota changed to the "new" color sometime in the '90's, I think. The "new" orange is a pretty close match to Chevrolet Engine Orange, but you probably would not want to blend the colors when sprucing up your tractor.

These are tractors, not show cars. Why anyone would worry about paint on tractors is beyond me.

1) Because its my first tractor

2) To make the neighbours jealous

3) To have an excuse to work in the ManRoom

Anybody think of any others?

I may give that a try. We recently got Lowes in Canada but I don't know if they carry the same products. Our TSC stores here don't carry some of the products that can be found south of the border.

Ok I understand now, my neighbors are kind of far away to impress with shiny tractors. I hadn't thought of that aspect of having shiny tractors.

I would LOVE to paint my BX2230 up a bit but I have tried every know brand of orange paint and none of them match. Even the Kubota colors. I figure I will have to just use Chevy Orange and paint the attachments completely and then just match it.

I haven't done much painting but the service & minor repairs are progressing:
- front axle oil seal changed
- new synthetic front axle oil
- new front tires
- new synthetic engine oil & filter
- changed most of the bushings in the backhoe
- changed 3 pins in the backhoe
- backhoe removed (that was a chore)
- hydraulic oil & filters changed, screen cleaned
- fenders removed
- complete seat mechanism removed & cleaned - ready for reassembly
- lubricated all mechanical linkages below seat with Fluid Film

I've been prime painting any bare metal I come across & touching up with paint as I go. I painted the bucket with a brush. The dipperstick's rusty spots were primed & touched up with a brush.

I'm focusing on getting all mechanical components operating smoothly & protecting bare metal.

Take an un-faded painted part to any Automotive paint supply store. They can "take a picture" with their photo-spectrometer and create a paint formula for your equipment. A really good one will even tint the paint to match from there if needed. The product that they sell may cost more than you are accustom to but the quality will be better and you will than have a match color that you can buy in small quantities if needed. It will also be a great place to get advice, other paint supplies, health and safety equipment, and other related products and tools.

My apologies if you guys have already touched on this, but there is an "old" Kubota orange and a "new" Kubota orange. I had no problem matching the factory paint on my "old" B8200 with a TSC spray paint labeled as such. The gray is easier, since any auto parts store has so many dark grays to choose from.
Maybe they don't sell these "Kubota" paints any longer-I bought mine about 5 years ago.
